re: UNC/Wake Forest will play a game this year that doesn’t count towards their ACC records

Same thing happened a few years ago with Utah in the pac12, albeit for different reasons.
Utah scheduled a non conference game against a pac 10 opponent. By the time the game came around, Utah was in the pac 12 with said opponent. Game happened early in the season and didn’t count as a conference game.

Gotcha. ACC means basketball to me, not football.

People are clamoring for UNC-Wake in football?
In North Carolina they might be. The schools are a little more than an hour's drive from each other. Playing each other every four years or so by conference schedule doesn't cut it for in-state rivals.

Get rid of divisions and each team play 5 permanent opponents each year and rotate the rest. For example LSU could play Aggie, Moo U, Ole Miss, Bama, and Arky every year and rotate the other 8 schools. Go to 9 game schedule and it works.

Details as to why?
Wake's coach was on ESPNU radio the other day and said if they did not set up this series with UNC that they would not host UNC at home for like 14 years bc of the expanded conference and the ND deal.
To their fans and alumni that is unacceptable for the oldest inter state rivalry.

That's ridiculous.
If you're going to have more than twelve programs in your conference, you need to play more than eight games to avoid this shite.
The fact that, as an example, Florida plays Alabama at home once every twelve seasons is a farce.

It was Colorado and Cal.
Colorado didn't play Cal in-conference that season though.

LSU-Ole Miss hasn’t been a rivalry since the early ‘70s when Ole Miss permanently went into the tank.
LSU’s games against Alabama, Auburn and Florida are all way more important than Ole Miss. When a game slides to no higher than fourth on the priority list for one team, that series is no longer a rivalry.

If we do away with permanent rivals.
And add another cross division SEC opponent. That way I can actually go to Athens, Knoxville, and Columbia to watch LSU play more than every 15 fricking years.

Take a look at UNCs football schedule.
They pretty much just play the schools they’ve always played.
I wish we’d follow their lead.
