I recently posted about a guitar I was building (acoustic). That is going along well but slowly. It should go slowly being my first one.

Now I am sidetracked with woodworking, antique planes, refurbishing planes, finding old handtools that look like dogshit and making them look good and usable again.

Prize examples are anything from my grandfathers old stash. HE has long passed away, so anything remotely salvageable is fair game.

Never thought I'd be old dude who hangs out in the garage, but here we are. LOL

Change is always on the horizon and we never know how where we will end up. Sounds like a great hobby.

Don’t get caught up in hand planes.

It’s a rabbit hole for sure.

I went down a YouTube rabbit hole on refurbished tools. Plenty of them out there.

There is always someone on Craigslist in New Orleans posting old hand tools for sale. Look for Stanley Bedrock planes. Anything pre ww2.

Or just buy new lie-nielsen, so your grandkids can find them 100 years from now.

Do you know me IRL and that is sarcasm? Cause I am screwed there. All I want to do is make warped boards straight. Lol

I have Stanley baileys. I don’t know how to ID “bedrock” planes.

ETA I’ve found a tool online that’s an algorithm for nailing down which “type” of “No. 7” you have. This of course narrows the dates. I also know the keyhole on the lever cap was done pre 1933.

I have a number 5 that has a plastic adjustment knob so I know that was post war.

Soooo addictive. I have several Stanley Bailey planes. A couple Lie-Nielsen including a #4 and a low angle block plane. It’s used on pretty much any project.

I am making a buttstock and forearm for an old H&R crackbarrel just for the fun of it. I have some nice walnut and will make some grips for an old Star .45 BM to pretty it up a bit.

It’s a blast really......

Bump and reply.

I won an auction on a Bailey #6 that I was expecting to lose. I think bad pics kept the bidding low. It’s a type 16 I believe. 1933-41.

Then I find a Stanley 10 1/2 rabbet plane at a junk shop. I left it there but am reading more about them. It’s rare and they only want $45.

Ate up with it. Lol

Sorry this thread was started before the home and garden board was around. That’s why it’s here.

Admins please move instead of anchoring or whacking.
