the wife of one of my coworkers teaches English to people in China on the line. It sounds like it is pretty flexible.

What about monogramming clothes for kids or something like that?
This is what I would do.. work your own schedule and not annoy anyone. Know someone making quite a bit as a SAHM right now doing that.

A couple of the posters have already mentioned online teaching. I know a teacher who does it on the side and makes around $1,500 extra per month. She works with VIPKid and really enjoys it. She says the only negative is the hours. Lessons have to be taught on Beijing time, so she would have to get up rather early. But seriously, your wife would have a very flexible schedule and make a pretty decent chunk of change.

She is a teacher... I did find something online where teachers do English online for children in China
was JUST about to post this. I know 2 different retired teachers who do this. They know ZERO chinese, but do this every morning at like 5am (because its late evenings there) They love it

Is $12/hr cheap for a nanny? Seems like that would cost more.
Daycare is normally $200 or more for an infant a week. So we technically pay more but she comes to us which saves a lot of time and is a retired reliable lady. Not a $12/ hour daycare worker that can be very hit or miss.
OP, if she is a teacher she should look into tutoring or the other options as already said. Its usually best to stay in her career field.
Is she planning on going back to work?

VIPKID is what you're looking for. I have heard great things about it. There was a thread a while back on it. I'll see if I can dig it up.
Edit: Here it is. O-T Lounge

This is what my wife did when she stopped working. Found a successful real estate agent and see what support they may need that can be done offsite. While earning a little $$ she learned the business and got her license.
When kids got a little older and she was ready to go back to work she became a FT agent and is now doing fairly well.

My wife is in the same boat. She is a Stitch Fix stylist. Works at home from her computer a couple of hours a week picking out clothes for women. Seems pretty easy to me.

Yeah...Umm, we technically pay our nanny more than some people make right out of college. This New Orleans market was savage.
