No offense taken. I strive for balance in my life and the travel is my balance. Every project we do is on a tight deadline and many are signed last minute.

It's one reason I look for dive island bars where I can just let it all hang out.

ETA: I had a heart event in 2015 thaqt changed my perspective on a lot of things. Three weeks before it happened I was ocean kayaking in Roatan and if it had happened then I wouldn't be around today. I've become much more of a live life in the moment kind of guy since that happened.

This thread now has me questioning the amount of money we are saving. My goal has always been to retire by 50-55. I’ve been fortunate enough to set my wife and I up for a good shot at that. The more I read this thread, the better that boat and sports car are starting to sound ??

hell yes!

you have to try to enjoy the journey. if you are so focused on just having all that money for retirement you can become obsessed and not enjoy the now. then you retire and may not have long to enjoy all that.

sure some of us can retire early but what if we are barely scrapping by month to month? what kind of retirement is that? so work longer yet by them you may not be able to do shite. it can be a catch 22 for some. it is why i say i might just slowly taper down work but i will always have irons in the fire making money through some vehicle. work half a year vacation like VA bucknut the rest

so yeah if you have enough cash flow or cash on hand now f it go buy yourself a toy.

Well they thought their companies would take care of them.

That's one of the benefits of starting early.

To answer your question I would rather retire at 55 comfortable. Those are ten good years I could see and do a lot of things. My plan for retirement is to travel and spend more time fishing and hunting. Can fish and hunt locally and would like to take a few big trips a year, as well as more quick beach weekend get-aways.

And time is everyone's biggest enemy in retirement so I'll take those ten years. Those ten years will be way better to do stuff I want to do and see then 65-75. I will be debt free as far as mortgages and car notes. I own some real estate and between those rents and retirement income I will do and see as much as my budget allows. You can't take it with you, and as for the kids I will have put them through school and college so the rest is up to them. I will be getting zero from my parents and am totally ok with that bc they owe me nothing.
