With essentially dumping of Otto Porter & Harrison Barnes and along with the news that Jeremy Lin is being bought-out & signing with the Raptors, I have a bad case of “what-could-have-been” with the Pelicans.

Of course I think we could have gotten Barnes or Porter (I’ll say something like Randle/Moore/Wes), made a run at Jeremy Lin and essentially run with this:

Lin/Payton/Frazier
Jrue/FJ
Barnes/Kenny Hustle/Miller
Niko/Diallo
AD/Jah

Obviously entertaining this path is useless considering the course we are realistically on, but has anyone considered what Dell would’ve done had AD remained quiet? I know many even myself have thought AD’s trade request would be best for our future but how do you feel after thinking what could’ve been if AD just stuck with it?

If any of those players you mentioned would change the situation in ADs mind he’d have waited for Demps to make a trade.

I go back and forth. Part of me thinks we could had the best squad AD has ever had around him.

The other is glad we weren’t buyers at the deadline

Honestly, him asking for a trade works out better because we didn’t take on any long term salary before he deserted us.

Would Porter and Lin have helped us? Yes. But AD is still the same pussy who would have wanted out this summer and by then we would have shot our wad, payroll wise, on keeping him.

I think this team has some short term potential. They could compete for the eighth seed and probably get it. However, this team has limited upside and best case scenario this would lead to AD postponing his trade request until next year at the trade deadline instead of now.

It has become increasingly clear to me that this team would never do anything with AD and that we needed serious organizational changes, which would never happen without some impetus.

I’m ready. I’m hoping this will change the course of the franchise to set itself up for future success.

In the end all those would have done would be kick the can down the road.

This organization needs a restart with young guys on cheap contracts. You cant build a winner in a small market without ever having draft picks.

I'm ready to move on from AD. He's a phenomenal talent but it just didn't equate to wins.

Obviously that's not entirely on him or even mostly on him. Some of it is though, and I'd rather watch a winner than an average team with a great player.

It is pretty funny that AD plays without a legit SF his entire career, demands a trade, and franchises start dumping legit SFs on the market.

I would have liked to trade for Porter, think he would have finally solved our SF issues. Contract is horrible but if AD leaves or is traded does it really matter in the grand scheme of things. Adding him and an alpha vet in the twilight of his career similar to like we had in Rondo on the cheap could be the difference. Top 5 NBA players don't grow on trees.
