I have an old DirecTV standard def satellite that I put in a tripod. I set it out there and it gets all the ESPN channels within 5 min. I have an HD antenna for over the air channels (CBS, ABC, FOX, etc)... Most people, at my tailgate at least, aren't worried about the quality as we use it more as just a scoreboard to keep track of the day. It says something about your tailgate if everyone is sitting around watching Big 10 games at 11...

As for HD satellites, they are hard to hit. I've seen people struggle for hours trying to find the satellites especially around all the trees. Then they end up just giving up and watching SD.

Disclaimer: I have DirectTv but if I was solely doing a subscription for tailgate it would be Dish for the Tailgater. For some reason Directv isn't on their level yet...

Stream directv for free if you have AT&T.
Connect phone/mirror to TV via chromecast or fireTV

We stream off of a phone with an unlimited data plan. You will need an adapter that will connect your phone to a USB port on the TV. We have a small generator that keeps the phone charged all day, runs the TV and a few other creature comforts.

We have been tailgating for over 10 years, the only reliable option is the tailgater from Dish.

That is if you don’t know someone who already has a spare satellite dish and service.

We had no luck with streaming (tried couple of different ways). It’s very unreliable

We use a slimline HD satellite with DirecTV. Never have any problems getting a signal in Touchdown Village.

Tailgater from dish... automatic satellite antenna... if you don’t have Dish service at your house, just sign up for a pay-as-you-go plan for football season only. Every year we re-activate our service and stop it in Jan

Go no further. This is the correct answer. Use my from Louisiana to Wyoming to Washington to California. Can not be beat. I use a 50' cable. Trees are a problem some times. Point it south hook it up turn the receiver on and enjoy.

+1

The only time I have had issues with my setup was at Ole Miss in the middle of the Grove. Once we got it above the tents it worked fine.
