Looking at NY next year but know someone that is spending it in Paris and looking forward to his report?

In my PJs with no toys to put together or meals to cook.

This thread isn't the OT or about traveling to your couch.

Nope to Paris, for me.p, though I love it in spring. It feels closed and private, with the tourist shut out of the season.
I’d rank some place like Nuremberg, Salzburg, or Strasbourg as best: cold but not freezing weather, outdoor Christmas markets full of gluhwein and sausages, lights and trees and decorations everywhere, convivial people gathering outdoors in public to celebrate, plus beautiful churches and music. Even if you know no one in a city with a vibrant market tradition, you will feel the spirit of the season, as people gather in public.
ETA: NYC is fun at the holidays, but once.....I don’t feel the need to repeat that experience.

A small Caribbean island.

We are in Rome this week and went for the pope's Christmas day address in st. Peter's square. It was quite impressive. Rome is our new favorite European city to visit in the off season.
I also love Paris, but haven't been there for Christmas. You could do Christmas in Rome, then NYE in Paris.

The Christmas in Alsace is amazing. All the lights, choirs, caroling, Christmas Markets. Wonderful times to be had. My girlfriends family is from Colmar, I've never seen anything like it. Strasbourg was amazing too. Even Mulhouse

I would say somewhere in Switzerland, but I've never been around that time. Always at home (luckily, so far) for Christmas.

This. My daughter and I hit the Christmas Markets in Brussels and Köln this year and were absolutely blown away. Had a wonderful time at the markets in both cities. Highly recommended!

i recommend the Plaza. You may get to Paris and decide to come back to NYC for Christmas Day if you forget something, although difficult it can be done. Watch out for the sticky bandits

was going to have to make this thread soon anywhere, going on a honeymoon next December. Lady friend and I want to hit the best towns for Christmas displays.

Love the idea of a Christmas market honeymoon! You could easily do Nuremburg, Munich, and Salzburg on a 10-day trip, packing in all the Bavarian & Austrian Christmas you can stand. The markets in all three places are very organized, with special musical performances and other changing activities.
In Salzburg, there are various Krampus-related things, including a big Krampus parade. You will also find a few folk performances as well, featuring pre-Christian winter solstice characters/spirits and activities.

My family spent Christmas in Aspen a few years ago and it was incredible. Obviously that doesn't work with kids unless you want to drag all their presents with you.
