From what I've read, it doesn't make muddy water taste like Perrier, but they do a good job of removing bacteria. I've been looking at picking some up too for emergencies.

Luckily I've never been put in a situation that I need it, but I do have one.

I have a Katadyn Vario water filter. That things turns the darkest puddle into crystal clear water that tastes great

I used one on a 3 day canoe trip down the Buffalo River. It worked great.

Never used a life straw, but i have a Sawyer filter on my osprey reservoir (in the middle of the 'straw' between the reservoir and mouth piece). Just dip the reservoir in the water, screw on the top and suck the water through the shoulder straw and it purifies it as you drink. No issues after a couple trips. Thought it was much more convenient

Yes and a little Sawyer that is more versatile.

I like it for clear, running waters like KNF.

Haven’t drank swamp water.

I have a Lifestraw in the truck, and a Sawyer in my BOB. As others have said, I haven't used them but once each, just to test... and didn't get sick. I have used my water purification tablets a couple of times on 72 hour hiking trips.

This, unless you are filtering for more than one person.
