Avast, AVG, etc?

Both of them have become pretty resource heavy in my recent experience. Anyone got a good rec for some that's lite?

probably because they are owned by the same shite company.

the only free a/v to use is the one bundled with windows - defender.

FYI In Windows 10 MS Security Essentials is just known as Windows Defender. It's a bit confusing because there is/was a Windows Defender for old versions of Windows that is different. I only run AV on company PCs. None of my home Windows machines use anything other than MSE/Defender.

Microsoft Security Essentials aka Windows Defender is all you need. It isn't the best antivirus software out there, but it is free and does a good enough job. But if you are serious about protecting your data you should invest in serious backup and data recovery. Antivirus is just an early layer of defense.

It's very important to at least once or twice a year set aside a weekend and do a dry run. Unplug your drives, plug in blank ones, and try to recover from scratch. If you can't do that, you aren't really protected no matter what antivirus product you have.

I use Windows Defender included with Windows 10 and have a custom hosts file for blocking unwanted ads, etc.

I run the paid version of Malwarebytes Anti-malware.

A close second behind it for me is ESET Nod 32.

Another +1 for windows defender.

There's really not much difference between AV vendors this day and age. A signature is a signature, and easily gotten around if you really want to.

You won't see a real difference until you start looking at EDR solutions at the enterprise level.
