Time for a lil work - Brandin Cooks is back at it today in Saints training camp
Vaccaro no pads. Ingram out.

Byrd out too, so new safeties with the No. 1 defense

First camp scrap - LB Nate Stupar decks OL Jack Allen, who was locked up with another defensive player

Strong defensive performance today was without Breaux, Vaccaro, Byrd, Lewis and Swann.

I've covered every #Saints training camp with Brees. This is by far the most interceptions he's thrown in camp.

Nick Underhill
On Austin Johnson, team is still assessing his situation

We'll see how D does against Pats next week, but u can't ignore how consistent d has been for more than a week now.
quote:
Lyons Yellin
Give #saints D line a ton of credit, they've been getting great push, making Brees, rest of QBs Rush their throws.

#saints WR Cooks looking like his usual self, just caught out route, turned up field, down sideline running full speed w/ no prob whatsoever.

We will find out how our defense is really shaping up next week against Brady

Jesus, D is ballin'!
But I'm concerned the OL is playing poorly.
It's hard to tell.

Remeber last preseason when the D balled out against the Patriots? I won't be a believer until I see some improvement in the regular season.

I'm really looking forward to seeing defensive improvement this year.

I know our D is better but definitely not this improved. We need Armstead back to find out if Lelito or Strief are broken.

I think this is the question of camp so far.

I pray that the defense has improved but Im afraid our offense just isn't very good..
We'll see..
Has anyone seen anything mentioned about Trae Elston? Safety from Ole Miss. I've tried to keep up but haven't seen anything thus far. TIA

FA in a deep Safety corp. Running with the three's and have heard nothing else good or bad.

Our OL, despite the hate they got, was pretty good last season. We've lost a nearly washed up Evans while Peat is in a lot better shape. Unless you think Brees is going to fall off a cliff (he's a year and half younger than Brady, less than a year older than Palmer), we'll have a top 6 or 7 offense.
I think we'll have the our best offense since early 2013.

Same here. All the skill positions seem better and worst case scenario for the o-line is the same guys with a better Peat.

If we get good Spiller, we could very well have the 2nd best offense we've ever had (2011 is one of the all-time NFL GOATS).

I'm not necessarily worried about the offense, it just worries me that the defense is dominating the offense currently. I don't have any trust in our defense yet, so if they're doing good, I worry about who they're playing against. That's all.
And yeah I know who he's up against, I was just curious if anything had been said about him that I missed.. I really liked the pickup, I think he will be able to play at this level.

Don't forget that we're missing one of the NFL's top 3 LT's. That changes up a lot along the line.
Also, practice a day or two ago had the starting OL winning most battles against the starting DL. The backup DL owned the backup OL.
But I understand your skepticism. Every time someone does something well on one side, it could be poor play from the other side. We'll get a better idea of what's up in a few days when the Pats practices begin.

Best case scenario: really good defense is just wrecking shite against a pretty good offense.
Worst case scenario: an average defense is clobbering a below average Saint offense.
Trying to be objective - You know what makes me think there's a chance it might be the latter? Brees is the one constant factor in all Saint offenses: good and average. And he's throwing picks. Something he doesn't usually do with frequency. It would be different if they just couldn't move the ball.
Hope my gut is wrong.
EDIT: I'll caveat my post to admit that I haven't been following camp daily. Hopefully there's been some good news on offense. Just my impression of what I'm reading today.

Good Defenses tend to improve as the week goes on because the familiarity of routes gives them an edge on knowing where to be. Or at least that's what I tell myself
