Not as good as BoB, I disagree. The second five episodes are awesomely done. I think The Pacific would get more love if it ended on more of an "up" note like BoB, and not just the "wow, those guys went thru some harrowing awfulness" downer it ends on.

It's very good. Not as good as BoB. I think that lull in the middle is where most people started to get bored with it, then it picks up and gets really good.

I knew they went through some terrible stuff, but the Okinawa parts were just insanely brutal. I didn't think I could respect what those men did anymore than I did already, but seeing that really hit home with me. More so than BoB even.

1. Generation Kill
2. Band of Brothers
3. The Pacific (very distant third)

The Pacific was based on 2 very different books. It also had a third story line. It told the story of 3 different people who had very little to no contact with each other. On the other hand, B.O.B. was based on one book and followed one company through WW2. B.O.B. flowed much better. That is the only reason I thing B.O.B. was a better series.

Comparing apples to oranges.

The war in the Pacific was completed different than the war in Europe.

Both series were excellently done. I will agree that BOB had much more likable characters.

I liked Generation Kill, but no way was it better than either of those two.

Both were really good
It was easier to follow the one company through BOB
The Pacific was harder to make because of the nature of that conflict

I agree with this. Though I think the Leckie and Sledge parts could have been successfully fused. They did do a little of that using Sid and the scene with the books\library. But they had to take some liberties to do it.

But the Basilone story was of a different tone. I think they could have maybe done a stand alone movie or short series based on his story and used just the Sledge and Leckie stories for the main series. Or heck, maybe just make them three separate series.

But the tone

+1...I caught a middle episode out of the blue and couldn't get interested, but after getting the entire BOB/Pacific Blue Ray pack I changed my mind. I thought Pacific was amazing, not quite Band of Brothers, but still nicely done.

Someone mentioned Generation Kill, I watched this on HBO Go, and have to say it was pretty good. I have several friends in military that said it was portrayed really good...a little more drama than real life but that was to be expected. Godfather was a badass!

They are both excellent but so different as they should be. The battle for Europe was a romantic adventure fused with brotherhood, death and humanity. The battle for the Pacific was nothing short of hell. Both were devastating and life altering but the Pacific was void of any pretense of humanity.

Oh man, The Pacific gave me nightmares. Those last few episodes were flat out brutal to watch. I can't even begin to imagine going through that. I am amazed that all of those guys were able to somewhat get on with life after the war.

I don't try and compare BOB to The Pacific. Completely different series. The Pacific is a mind frick whereas BOB is a story of characters.
