Trying to decide between the two brands for a commercial grade zero turn mower for 8 acres. Anyone have a particular preference for one brand over the other? Also, should I go with an air or liquid cooled engine? Any advice is appreciated.

No experience with exmark. I use a commercial scag with a 26 hp kawasaki motor and its on its 4th year with no problems. I like it. Does what its supposed do.

I like both, but the Scag will absolutely haul arse. With 8 acres, I would go with whatever is more comfortable for you to be on for a length of time. Both brands are solid, and I don't know a lot about a specific model. Just seems like comfort would be the deciding factor for me if those are the only brands you're looking at. I've heard good things about the Kubota line, too fwiw.

Have heard great things about the large commercial kubota models. There are 4 different ex-mark models in my family and everyone absolutely loves them.

Those are the top two motors IMO. We got a scag because it didn't cost as much. Just as good though.

A lot of them are heavy and have diesel motors in them. Look at a Gravely while you are trying to decide

Diesel mowers are AWESOME if your yard dries well. The power is so nice and theyre a little quieter. Definitely not made for a wet yard though.

Just from personal experience, I think they make an inferior product. Every piece of equipment I've handled from trimmers to riders that they've produced have had problems. JMO

Shocks on the wheels, electric deck lift and is as fast of faster than dixie choppers.

You can also get it with the Vanguard motor which is the best motor available in a gas mower.
It's the same engine on alot of Surface drive motors.

I know 2 different people who have a commercial zero husqvarna. They wouldnt trade them for anything. Now of course, they dont have the name scag or exmark but I drove one recently and they are just as heavy duty as the lower commercial grade scag and exmark.

I have 4 acres and decided on the Scag Turf Tiger 61. What made me choose the Scag over Kubota, ExMark, and Ferris is that the cutting deck is shaft driven and the Velocity deck. Mine has a 29hp liquid cooled Kawa and has been a machine! The only thing that I have had to replace besides filters and blades is a steering damper. This is a nitrogen filled shock that attaches to the handles to prohibit spinning in the grass, also make driving smoother.

I have had an Exmark Kawasaki engine for 10 years. I have replaced the engine however after about 7 years of use. I like my exmark alot and I have been pretty rough on it with no problems other than engine. Did 20-25 yards for about 6 years before going to college and giving it up. With that being said, my dealer switched from exmark to scag saying scag was better. Then he switched to Hustler from scag for the same reason.
My uncle bought a hustler and has had no issues. I have cut with it a few times and it runs great and is powerful. He has about 5 acres.
