Town near Myrtle Beach.

Not really any details yet. Hearing 25+ police cars at the scene of Roadway Inn…basically a shite hole where drug dealers go

Person is Barricaded

Reports are an officer is down with injuries

Looks like it has been "resolved" this morning. No news on suspect condition or motive. He did fire on officers again around 2am and his mom also could not talk him out.

The Horry County Police Department said officers are on the scene of an active investigation in the area of Surfside Beach.
The HCPD said at around 9:10 p.m. Sunday that Highway 17 Business near 17th Avenue North is closed to traffic in both directions. Drivers are being asked to find alternate routes and stay away from the area. Those nearby may also see HCPD officers as well as troopers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Surfside Beach is 10 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. It's mostly inhabited by retirees. 92% white and relatively middle class.

Visitors this time of year make it diverse, cheap hotels.

Been to Surfside a couple of times. It's a little quieter than staying in Myrtle but close enough to do all the touristy crap. Wouldn't expect this kind of thing there.

if they would have had a waffle house there, none of this would have happened.

Know the area well. Or at least I used to.

Is this anywhere near that flea market? Not sure if that place is still around. The flea market is/was on the non beach side of Hwy 17

That essentially describes a large majority of Hwy 17 Business intersections from Murrel's Inlet all the way to North Myrtle Beach

Yeah so much for the “we’ll stay in Surfside where it’s quiet and minimal riff raff” we’ve been doing for forever.

The surfside I remember is a water park, a shite ton of miniature golf courses and seafood buffets and retired people in churched up trailer parks

This spot is right by ocean lakes campground. That motel was mostly destroyed/abandoned and then rebuilt but has been a total shithole for 20+ years. Has never been a lot of crime in Surfside, but the majority of it always tended to revolve around drugs and the handful of crappy motels that were still left along business 17.

Myrtle Beach was mostly the same up until the gangs from SE NC and Peedee area started to really move in to ocean blvd.
