Planning to take the family skiing for Mardi Gras and wife has settled on Steamboat. Have a few questions. How is it for first time skiing? (Wife not kids have ever skied and I am not great). Other stuff to do? Any recommendations? Restaurant recs? Kids are 8&11 if that matters.

Thanks

Pretty good for first time skiers. It’s where I learned to ski. Bunny hill right at the base. You can ski top to bottom on a green.

Strawberry hot springs is a must if you can get the kids over there. If not, the local hot springs in town is more kid friendly.

My family and I were there 2nd week of December right after their first big snow. My young adult children had a good time on the snow and the wife (no pics) and I enjoyed the town. Carl's Tavern has a great selection of Bourbon. Sunpie's Bistro is a cool /fun place. Like a lot of places there are many hidden treasures that you just have to get out and about to find. People there were great. I want to go back.

We will be there for Mardi Gras also. Already got the kids signed up for ski school for one day as refresher. Most of the restaurants are a bus ride downtown but not sure how they are with Covid restrictions

There is free skiing on Sundays at the hill in downtown.

Strawberry hot springs.
My family loves a day snowmobiling too.
We are trying to do dogsledding this time but they are currently booked. I would recommend booking that in advance.

Grizzle T is awesome and I highly recommend them if you can make it happen. Kids loved it.

Once you find the tomahawk run, you will do it over and over and over. It is my favorite run of any ski resort I’ve been to over the past 20 years.

Best place for beginners IMO. Been there 3 times as my children were first at an age when I felt they were ready. Also where I first learned to ski as an adult. Green runs are safe, but not too flat where you have to work hard to get down.

Tomahawk run was awesome. I got there towards the end of the day yesterday, and wish I would have started there sooner. Really fun cruising run with rolling hills.

Also, had a top dining experience at a newer restaurant called Sauvage. Fantastic 6 course tasting menu.

Saddleback Ranch is a lot of fun for tubing.
