She said shark was good. I did a quick google search, but I was expecting it to be more money for a good vacuum.

Windsor, Riccar, Hoover, Kirby, Sanitair...all offer models far better than anything from Dyson or Shark. You can pick up a decent mid-level commercial-grade unit for much less than the cost of the best Dyson model and have something that will outperform and outlast it.
