He text the team because the story broke before he was able to fly back and meet with them. The alternative would have been no contact at all and to ghost them.

He then had a face to face meeting.

don’t you think it’s pretty classless to send a text message to players?

You’re right. He should have made a TikTok video.

He did have a face to face with the team. He indicated in the message he was headed back to South bend. He only sent the text because the story leaked prior to him being able to inform his team personally.

Not sure there was a better way---these things are always messy. This is just amplified do to it being such a prestigious program he left.

He did have a face to face meeting.

I don't have any problem with how he did it.

Joel Klatt said it best, this is what we have created. We can't allow kids to troll schools on early signing day picking a hat, leave for the NFL early, transfer to any school they want (whenever they want), and make whatever money they want off of NIL....then tell the coaches they can't leave early in the season for a new job to ensure they get off to a good start before early signing day.

Text message to players and then leaving before the potential CFB playoffs?

This was to address the media broke the news before he could talk to players...he essentially talked to them the next day...

He was going to tell them at their scheduled team meeting that next day and the media leaked the hire.

He can’t tell them face to face if the media puts it our before he has a chance to talk to them. At that points texting was all he could do and he still met them face to face.

Also, you don’t tell them you have an interview with another team bc you’ll have issues if you don’t take it. Players have the right to leave now just like coaches and a lot of times the coaches/schools find out about the transfer the same way the players found out about him leaving, through the media.

After listening to the ND players podcast, it seems like ND fans and some LSU fans are more angry about it than the guys that actually play for him. Actually, the LSU fans that are mad are the ones that don’t like the hire.

he did you fricking moron. He sent the text because the media leaked the hire while he was out of town and he had planned to tell the players in person, first.

I meant as a first way to tell I didn’t know he was out of town when it leaked

Notre Dame was in a much better position & if they make the playoffs I would consider this close to Petrino level. But, if they don't make it I don't see it as bad.

We are biased in our assessment, but I don't really agree with him bolting on them.

News travels quickly via social media. The reports came out he was accepting the LSU job before he had a chance to address the team in person. The text was saying he was going to address the team tomorrow in person to essentially tell them what they already knew via social media.

Then again, I don't know shite about recruiting rules/schedules etc.

That is probably where you should start then. The early signing day is Dec. 15 (two weeks). Thus, if he is going to be coaching a new team next season it is imperative that he jump in ASAP so as to try to sign a good class for next season. I doubt he really wanted to leave ND on the cusp of a potential playoff berth and would have preferred to do so at a later date, but the timing of signing day is not something he could control...and LSU wasn't going to wait until ND's season finished (potentially in mid January) to bring him aboard.

Like it or not, the early signing day speeds up the timeline to fire/hire a new coach.

The NCAA early signing period has forced schools to
fire coaches before the season ends and hire coaches before the early signing period which is December 15th. It is not the schools fault.

Most players don’t have any loyalty either. It’s all business these days.

He had a meeting planned with his players at 7 AM but media started leaking the hire and he wanted to tell his players. He still had the meeting at 7 AM with his players and the ND AD before flying to BR. You can’t handle it any better

The problem with society today is people think they are entitled to some explanation. BK is a grown man and regardless of how he handle a certain situation people will find something wrong regardless of the outcome. So in other words he don't owe anyone any kind of explanation on why he's leaving or why he didn't meet with them face to face.
