I’ve heard some comments like “he’s a smarter Les Miles” and “he has a dinosaur offense”

Has it occurred to anyone that he is running more of a traditional offense because he doesn’t have the skill players on the outside?

He has stated numerous times that he has had trouble getting skill players to ND. It wouldn’t shock me if he has a totally different offensive philosophy when he gets here. Like Saban he has proven he isn’t afraid to evaluate himself and make a big change.

Has he?

I mean, he may be great, but

But I was told he’s a great recruiter?

Yea after the 2016 season he completely gutted his staff and delegated more responsibility. And it was a great decision.

He isn’t anything like stubborn Miles or clueless O who didn’t even know what changes to make.

You think it’s easy to get the type of recruits he needs to southbend with high academic standards and ugly arse women?

I don’t care if they only need a 2.5 to get in, these players aren’t skipping class at Notre Dame and getting handed grades. For someone who is focused on the NFL, Notre Dame is a unnecessary headache.

as of right now ND is ranked #4 in recruiting by 24/7 I'd say that's kinda upscale

Don’t be that guy. If any fan should understand this, it should be an LSU fan. LSU has had very highly ranked classes, yet has struggled to land top offensive lineman.

You see, the class may be highly ranked but that does not mean every position has highly ranked players.

He was doing things offensively at Cincy before other teams were doing it.

This right here is 100% true and deserves mention. Kelly had to transform himself and his coaching staff to evolve. And the difference between the way he did it an the way Orgeron has tried to do it is that Kelly made serious hires that were great coaches and implemented a system of accountability and collaboration that kept everyone on the same page working together. There was no panic about it. And it worked exactly as designed.

Here is a condensed game footage of the ND-FSU game:

Plenty wide 3-4 wr sets. Looked wide open to me. No worries

I understand he was the head coach so he gets the praise for this, but he wasn't running the offense. He is a defensive minded Head Coach. He has a history of hiring good offensive coaches so from that stand point its good, but he is not installing an innovative offensive scheme himself.

Kelly is actually somewhat of an anomaly. He’s an ex- DC who is considered an offensive genius. Yes, he will be very involved with implementing the offense.

Very true. I’ve always seen him as an offensive coach but looking at his past, he seems to have come up coaching defense.

Has he actually run/game planned/strategized the offenses he’s had at Cincy and ND???

ND is always recruiting with a handicap because of grades and whatnot.

He did for much of his head coaching career. I know he did at Cincinnati. He also called plays at Notre Dame when they made the run to the BCSCG. Since then, it has been collaborative.

I think he is like a super-CEO in that he will allow the coordinators to do their jobs, but he understands both sides and actually sets the framework on both sides. The dude is a pretty brilliant coach.

ETA: I also have a buddy who has played golf with BK and said he is much different than he appears on tv. Said he was a super nice guy and very personable. (I know he was telling the truth, because he texted me a picture.)

I saw his Cincy and GVS teams using innovation.

He 100% adapted to what he has available to him at ND. After getting blown out vs Bama in NC game, he said he needed to rebuild with the trenches (as best he could) ... I think the lack of skill jumps off the field watching ND, but they are still able to beat teams like LSU.
