Thought this was cool:

Brian Kelly becomes the first Notre Dame coach to leave for another college job since Thomas A. Barry in 1907.
He left ND for Wisconsin.
He was a lawyer & pro baseball player, who, the Boston Post described, was a "pioneer in the art" of stealing home. He was never thrown out.

Kelly is an 8-4 coach for his entire career because he is too arrogant to be successful. For every 12-0 season he will have a 4-8 year to go with it

No, that was Ara Parseghian who decided to retire. They hired Dan Devine from the Packers.

Most in history have all resigned or got pushed out and retired.
Gerry Faust, Bob Davie and Ty Willingham got fired.
Rockne died
Frank Leahy quit to be an NFL GM
Ara Parseghian quit (or was pushed out because he was approaching Rock he's wins) and went into broadcasting
Lou Holtz was pushed out despite having a lifetime contract as he was approaching Rockne's wins
Kelly leaves as he was approaching Rock he's win total (ND doesn't his vacated wins.)
There's been a long-standing theory that ND won't allow any coach to surpass Rockne. Its not surprising ND didn't put up any fight to keep Kelly.

I laugh at Kelly claiming he's the winningest coach at Notre Dame, because he's counting the 21 games vacated by the NCAA for the academic fraud he condoned in 2012-2013. He's really 92-39 instead of 106. He also forgets to mention he's ND's losingest coach ever too with his 39 losses.
ND was very wise to fire CBK and hire Freeman the DC to replace him.

Yep
Back then the saying was:
Ara is human but Dan is Devine

This MIGHT BE their wake-up call.
Not a chance. If anything they'll think, "Kelly couldn't get us over the hump because he got away from what has traditionally worked at Notre Dame!" and undo the few things Kelly was able to get pushed through to try and modernize the program. Those people are attached to their past in the same way Jimmy Hoffa is attached to Soldier Field: they are buried and suffocated by it.

If you don't want to ruin your optimism, you should avoid the first quarter of 2012 championship game vs Alabama. Brian Kelly spent more time prepping for his interview with the Philadelphia Eagles than on game prep for the Championship. He acknowledged the team spent a total of 30 minutes of full contact practice in the 6 weeks prior to the game.
