If you have to settle why still give a coach a massive buyout?

I never understand how ADs get taken advantage of when they have the leverage. If you get stuck with someone like bill Obrien who nobody wants why have an insane buyout? its not like he will not take the job if there is not a huge buyout

Because O would do everything he could to burn LSU without the buyout.

Its the scam of college football coach hiring, if you don't have a massive buyout... everyone will be talking about how there isn't a buyout.

Its all a scam, LSU is most likely heading to the rinse and repeat pattern of Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, etc.

...but...but LSU is different.

Because a contract without a buyout means you have to pay the whole thing. Buyouts protect schools, not coaches.

These contracts are fully guaranteed. Any "massive buyout" is actually a reduction of what is owed.

Because each additional year of Ed O was gonna set the program back multiple years. There was no choice but to rip the bandaid--especially considering how talented this roster is. If we can bring in a good on-field coach who will maximize the roster, we can turn things around in a hurry and make sure that the recruiting hit we took from the downturn and firing/hiring a coach is minimal. If we let O keep doin his thing, we'd risk settling into a long-term down-period.

If you don't offer a buyout, you're not in the running for any reputable coach. Agents like Jimmy Sexton will flat out steer their clients away from you.

You want big whales but you want to skimp on the essentials?
