Can someone who knows a bit about HS and college soccer give me insight into the level of talent one would see in the US compared to different levels of European youth leagues? Like where would the top college team play in the Enlgish system or how bad would the top high school team get blown out by a run of the mill U18 academy team from Europe?

Also, seems like I'm seeing a ton of young MLS/USL kids gets call ups. How many HS kids completely forgo high school comp and go straight to an academy or pro? Thanks.

High school and college soccer restrict how you can get your talent and the practice time... a youth academy in Europe literally brings in kids from around the world and they live, sleep, eat, and breathe soccer.

HS and College soccer isn’t even real soccer

Different rules

As for the level of talent comparison it isn’t even close

Jack Harrison left the United academy once he was told he couldn’t hack it, to focus on school and totally dominated HS soccer when he moved here and was the best player in the country his year at Wake Forrest.

7th or 8th tier maybe?

It would be a blood bath.

The main difference is that those academies are practicing year-round and getting coaching year round, whereas high school and colleges only get together as a team for 4-5 months out of a year... and it's not like they are getting the best coaching.

Gotcha. Do any other countries have school based youth teams besides the US?

The academies are school based, except it's flipped.

The kids go tp their to play soccer with education being a plus, whereas college is about going to school with being able to play soccer being a plus.

Cool. So if you are a 15-17 year old stud American what options do you have in terms of places you can go/teams you can join?

An MLS academy is probably your best option

Hopefully you're already in an academy by then, else you are already working from behind.

If “around” = Jackson city limits, maybe

@op, for the academy question, high level teams in the US periodically play teams from abroad. Doesn’t answer your high school question, but from results, they are generally worse than PL academies but reasonably competitive

The biggest one is the subs rules

It’s completely changes the tactics of the match

HS and College soccer becomes who can run their players into the ground more because you can keep throwing bodies on the pitch and bring others back on when they are rested

That’s not real soccer

Isn't there a push for 5 subs coming under FIFA?

I think it depends on whether the condensed calendar continues or not.

Yes but it’s not seen seen as serious or competitive

My friend played for his university in England and he said it was essentially Sunday league standards

My son’s select coach once went to Hungary for a football camp and he said it’s unreal how more advanced children are at the game. They just intuitively see the field and have a better understanding of the game. We still have a couple of kids on our team who you have to keep a constant eye on bc they will legit just chase the ball like a dog
