The Riley to LSU narrative was created by this board. Simple conjecture for fun and games by anonymous posters with nothing to lose.

There was no formal offer. There was no formal counter by OU. There was no formal rejection.

What did Riley get out of this other than a big distraction for his team before the biggest game of the year?
If it was serious and OU wanted to retain Riley, they would have offered a lucrative extension before Bedlam. Look at Baylor and Aranda, Mich State and Tucker. Their agents used the LSU coaching search and leveraged nice raises out of it. What for Riley?

All of this talk is fun and games but this is starting to tarnish the LSU brand.
Now we have updates in Times Square saying Riley turning down LSU.
Our own fans are our own worst enemy in this coaching search.

Recruiting advantage over a future conference opponent. More financial support from OU. There are a lot of things he could have gained from this. We don’t know because it’s less than 24 hours after he turned it down publicly

Dude, read the board. Dellinger has already reported the the Riley situation was not a complete fabrication. There was obviously interest, and LSU obviously failed to land Riley for one reason or another. This wasn't mass delusion.

It wasn't just this board genius it was coming from OU's side too. They denied it up until they couldn't deny it anymore so clearly something changed.

We asked, he said no. Happens. But this is denial.

We lit the fire, fanned the flames, threw gasoline on it then blamed getting burned on someone that was nowhere near any of it.

It wasn’t … but the formal offer and it was a “done deal” was completely made up by this board.

I’m sure Woodward was/is talking to a number of agents to gauge interest.

That’s not what the article said. Delly said that some folks at LSU got caught up in this…but called it all unsubstantiated rumor.

This was a ghost story.

I have no idea why posters have difficulty acknowledging this obvious truth.

Yep, and Will Wade, Jay Johnson, Jack Bech, Walker Howard, etc all fell for it.

Didn’t realize they were avid readers of the CCB. Who knew!

LSU is doing work this morning trying to seed the story that they're the ones that really weren't interested in Riley and that we have our sights set elsewhere.

Shea, Jimmy, and others have been given the marching orders from their "sources".

Why did this information only come out after Riley definitively said he isn't coming to LSU, and not in the previous 5+ weeks when Riley was heavily rumored to be the guy Woodward wanted?

I’m not saying he was never considered, I’m saying Riley didn’t burn/use Woodward.

What did he get out of it, what was gained? How did he use Woodward??

Dellinger knows about as much information on this as any of you. He is shooting in the dark and hoping he hits something. Riley was a white whale and that was the perfect opportunity to push this smoke screen and get away from the real deal. All this ended up doing was pissing off riley and causing a distraction for him and his team which in turn had a hand in him losing that game.
