Apparently the Ascension/Livingston appeal is in play. They are together in 6-5A while all of EBR is in 5-5A.

6-4A should be renamed the "Failing EBR Public Schools district"

Catholic can’t run away from Zachary anymore.

It’s a hell of a lot easier to get to Memorial from Zachary than it is from Gonzales and St. Amant during Friday rush hour.

Catholic hasn’t lost to Zachary since 2015. Should be a good district rivalry though

I was just pointing out that there are two sides to every story. Catholic is a NBR team as long as they play at Memorial. It's a lot easier for Ascension to get to Livingston on LA 16 on Friday nights.

Plus, they traded not playing Catholic in football for a much tougher baseball district, and Ascension is more competitive in baseball anyway.

The current 4-5A baseball district is probably one of the best districts in state.

In 5A non-select the Acadiana/Lake Charles district is easily the best. The new 6-5A with St. Amant, Dutchtown, Live Oak and Walker might be #2.

Louisiana just doesn't have the brains in this area. We should hire either Mississippi or Texas to run our sports. And ban any communication from anyone from La to whichever state takes it over.

Central has won 2 championships in the last 5 years. Live Oak and Zachary have both made finals. They certainly have some talent in 4-5a.

Walker hasn't done much of anything in baseball for a long time now...

it might be the #2 district in baseball now but it’s the second worst football district, ahead of only the JP district in nonselect football

Y’all also run the risk of making a possible Ascension/Livingston district the “B” league for BR… much like 8-5A and the Catholic League, being known as the weaker district in your area will hurt every team

Walker was in the Class 5A state tournament last year while Live Oak, the district champion, was a first-round flame out. Zachary also wasn't in last year's state tournament.

that JP district was once very formidable had 4 state titles prior to the split... 1970, 1980, 1981 and 1985

1-5A nonselect sucks as evidenced by “2 seed” Captain Shreve. The Northshore Dostrict is Ponchatoula + garbage and the Bayou District has become Destrehan and maybe Hahnville sometimes + garbage.

Let’s face it. Nonselect has become basically 4-5 teams and the other 40 don’t have a prayer.

Central was a fraud 6 seed and we’ll see what Woodlawn really is when Collins graduates. EA gave Zachary a scare in the playoffs and they have the pure talent to make a move. They could be the big winner in this especially now that Dutchtown and St. Amant are about to lose a bunch of great athletes to Prairieville.

No doubt that is the case this year.

However, Mandeville and Covington have each made the semis in the last 10 years, and Slidell has put out some good teams as well.

The issue with the northshore is that it is the flavor of the weak and then a whole lot of mediocrity.

As for there only being 5 or 6 legit teams in 5a on the public side...when hasn’t that been the case?

Lately since the split it feels like Zachary, Acadiana, Destrehan and West Monroe are the only teams with a chance of even making it to the Dome. Sure a team like Ehret or Parkway can sneak in but they lose and they’re back to shite in a few years. Alexandria was probably a COVID thing and they’re average again now.

What category would you put Ponchatoula in? We haven't made it to the dome yet, but we have the team to do it this year and were also dome-caliber in 2014.

Only 7 schools still in 5a have won titles:

West Monroe -8
Acadiana - 5
Zachary -3
Hahnville -2
Destrehan-2
Thibodaux -1 (1991)
Carencro - (1992)

The others no longer in 5a:

Neville -1
Evangel -4
Rummel -1
Landry - Walker -1

As you can see, it is pretty much the same schools over and over.

Those still in 5a to make it to the dome only to lose (Excluding the above teams already listed):

Ouachita
Shaw -2 (5a currently, although moving down)
Ruston
Barbe
Parkway
Alexandria
Sulphur
Ehret

So since 1991, by appearance in the dome and still 5a:

West Monroe...16 total - 8 wins
Acadiana...7 total - 5 wins
Zachary...3 total - 3 wins
Hahnville...4 total - 2 wins
Destrehan...4 total - 2 wins
Thibodaux -1 (1991)
Carencro...3 total - 1 win
Ouachita
Shaw -2 (5a currently, although moving down)
Ruston
Barbe
Parkway
Alexandria
Sulphur
Ehret

No longer 5a:
Neville 3 total...1 win
Evangel 5 total...4 wins
Rummel 2 total...1 win
Landry - Walker -1

TLDR

From the schools still on 5a it is:

West Monroe
Acadiana
Destrehan or Hahnville from the river parishes

+

Carencro or Zachary

Add Rummel and Catholic and you pretty much have the elite 8 if, of course, the split didn’t exist (no offense to Bro Martin of Jesuit, which have stellar programs as well).
