How would YOU define a successful LSU football coach? Here are some options...

....Be in serious contention for the SEC West yearly
....Be in the SEC championship game at least once every 3-4 years
....Be in a New Years 6 Bowl every season
....Be National Champions once every 4-5 seasons
....10 wins most every season
something else????
I'm not even sure I know how I would define it, and I'm asking the question...But I know there is an element of all of these in the answer.

10+ wins
Division champions once every 2-3 years
Sec champs once every 2-4 years
This should change after Saban retires

A lot of these go hand in hand. If they win the SEC they will prob be in a New Years 6. Probably will be 10 wins as well. I'd say though if we could get to a place where the consistent expectation is we are a top 5 team year in and year out and the team meets/exceeds that expectation. Whether that results in NY6 bowls or NCs that's how I expect the team to be defined as successful so the coach as well.

Go ahead and name the schools that have done this in the modern era. I’ll hang up and listen.
The only LSU coach who came close to meeting your criteria was run out of town and is a source of constant ridicule here.

10+ wins every year. Doesn't have to be a championship all the time but as long as we're legitimately in contention year in year out.

I would say 9-3 would be the absolute floor. We should be 10-2 or better every season.

I think the LSU fanbase did a pretty good job of putting up with Miles because at the end of the day he did put a competitive product on the field
The problem these last two years has been a lack of a competitive product being put on the field

Being how lopsided the SEC west is, I think it really starts and ends there. Win the west and you will likely check many of the boxes you mentioned.

LSU should:
NEVER have a full season finish with a single digit in the win column.
NEVER have a 4 year period without at least one playoff appearance.
Should win at least one natty every 10 years.
That imo is the floor for an LSU coach's performance.

For 12 - 15 Millions, success has to be championships, conference and national... Maybe not the first year, but definitely in the first 3 years.

-9 win floor with 10 or more being the norm
-in contention to make it to Atlanta every year and making it to Atlanta pretty regularly once Saban retires
-with playoff expansion coming, making playoffs more years than not

Don’t bother. No matter what the coach does, they’ll still shite on him. They know better. And they can coach better. Obviously

9-3 or better every season. No reason that’s not attainable with the amount of talent surrounding us. Occasional 8-4 during a mini rebuild is whatever but not back to back.
No way should we ever be in last place in the SEC west. Ever.

Enter the last game of the season (Texas A&M until Texas comes into the league) with a chance to go to the SECCG with a win.
Every year.
That is my definition of a successful season. Won't always win those games, but anything less is a disappointing season.
GEAUX TIGERS!

Recruit only 5 star players. Win every game by 50. Win the natty then fire the coach. Rinse and repeat.
