Bob Stoops, during his prime, would have done some pretty incredible things at LSU, I'd imagine.

Yup, they were 8-5 with a top 50 ranked offense before Stoops hired Riley as OC. The moment he did they went back to normal with elite offense and 1-2 lose seasons ever since
Riley resurrected that program, Bob knew that and that’s why he recommended Riley be HC
