The 1990s “X-Men: The Animated Series” is getting a revival on Disney+ with a premiere sometime 2023, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Currently called “X-Men ’97,” the revival will pick up where the classic show left off, with several cast members from “X-Men: The Animated Series” are returning; some will reprise their original roles and others will step into entirely new roles.

The original “X-Men: The Animated Series” consisted of 76 episodes that aired across fives seasons between 1992 and 1997. It is currently available on Disney+. The animated series is credited for introducing the Marvel comic team to a mainstream audience, which arguably helped set it up for its 2000 live-action film. That film, starring Patrick Stewart and a then-unknown Hugh Jackman, started the early days of the superhero boom.

This is great news. I'll definitely take it!

AS LONG AS THEY KEEP THE THEME SONG! Modernize it a bit if you will, but keep the damn song!

I still don’t get how the X-Men movies didn’t try to incorporate some version of that music into the movies. Instead they have some forgettable theme I can’t summon in my head… and I’m trying real hard right now.

But the animated series? I can recall every note of that tune in a snap.

While the third season was lacking I'd put Young Justice up there as well.

But this is great news for people that love quality superhero shows. Disney is starting to get their feet wet in the X-Men business.

Maybe they should just do a complete reboot of the MCU and start over with the Fantastic Four, original Avengers, and X-Men?

Didn’t it kind of just end, too? I feel like I remember it just going away with storylines unresolved.

The amount of Marvel content that is coming is kind of insane. All looks interesting too!

This is super exciting news! The 90s show is among the best animated hero shows ever and has THE best theme song. I am sure they’ll be using a remixed version of it once the films but never expected they’d revive the series. There’s still some great stories they can tell, and I’d expect some other characters from the Marvel universe are likely to appear.

I never got the attraction, but I have good friends who grew up loving this and got into comic books and art because of this series. Happy that you guys are getting this (and that Disney is realizing what made their brands so popular).

This series is directly related to my comic book interest as a kid. Without this series, I don't think I'd have given two shits about the MCU in general and the X-Men weren't even in the MCU.

But I read other comics because I liked the X-Men stuff, and that gave me enough of an interest in the MCU. I don't read comics very much anymore, but I still appreciate well done covers or panels when I see them. I specifically enjoy David Aja's style.

His work on Hawkeye drew me into the series he and Matt Fraction did. It's why I'm excited about the upcoming Hawkeye series.

Yeah they'll figure out a way to ruin it. I don't have high hopes for this, even though was a incredible product.

I think the last episodes were a multi-part Apocalypse series about him jumping through time or something. The xmen teamed up with Cable and they were chasing him down through time portals and stuff.

Could be mistaken, but that's what I think I remember.

Loved, legit loved, the original show. Like many, it turned me on to comics as a whole.

But Disney ruins everything they touch. This will be awful.
