I actually agree.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million time: the 80s were Peak America

the overall murder rate was double what it is today in 1980, and the same today as in 1960.

That is IF the stats from today are to be believed (And I don't REMOTELY believe them because Dem Mayors and Govs are pathological liars who control the crime stats for political reasons)

IMO it was the FIRST half that rated high.

The second half of the 80s more resembled the early 90s when the wheels first started to come off. (Checks out because they were The Poppy Bush / Bubba Years)

Many on this board just cannot accept that murder rates were higher in the “Brady Bunch/Gilligan’s Island” days than now where a song like WAP can top the charts. But facts don’t care about your feelings, it’s true nonetheless.

BR's murder rate has never been higher than it is right now. And it was mostly inner city violence related to the explosion of crack cocaine. If you weren't a crack head you were mostly likely fine

I know BR set a record for number of murders this year, but is the rate higher than ever? Meaning adjusting for population growth? Also, it’s always been and still the case that people doing seedy shite are more likely to be murdered when compared to those that aren’t. That hasn’t changed.

There really hasn't been any population growth in BR since 1980. The 80s and 90s were big white flight to the suburbs decades here. The demographics changed a lot.

bullshite. The first half of the 60s, music was trash. frick a bunch of teeny boppers, Motown, and folk music. The 80s had something for everyone. New Wave, Pop, Metal, R&B, the birth of hip hop and rap.

sorry, but the beatles, rolling stones, led zepplin, beach boys, janis joplin, jimi hendrix, et al. were better and more important than guns n rosees, montley crue, and poison

I hate hair metal but the 60s music gets over romanticized by Boomers. The Beatles early albums were teeny bopper. Then you had all of the crappy, Chubby Checker/Fabian/Dion types that would pop up on American Bandstand. Ugh to the Folk music that really dominated the decade.

A lot of 60's music was actually early 70's music that gets thrown into the 60's. The period from around 67 though 74 was a very impactful period in music.

[100% agree. No cell phones. No social media. Life was a lot better.]

And only three TV stations. ESPN was listening to a transistor radio on Saturday waiting for the football scores to be called in. Pins and needles until the Slippery Rock score came in. Lol

I looked it up and you’re correct about the population growth in BR being stagnant since 1980 (though not true for the metro area). Either way it’s still true that the National murder rate is half of what it was in 1980. And as someone posted earlier, the murder rate today in Texas is 1/3 of what it was in the 80s.
