The most frustrating aspect about Max

His dad was an player and a coach. Everyone knows that one kid who had a dad as a coach who made up for his lack of athleticism by having fantastic technique and intangibles. That's who Max is meant to be.
But his technique and decision making... It's terrible. So now you have an average at best athlete with poor technique and decision making leading the team. He had many chances to win that game last night and missed all of them.

He's not terrible at anything. He's just not a big time QB.

He’s not average, either. An average QB would’ve won last night

He has 0 OL.
I saw so many whiffs by the OL last night. Completely missing blocks.

Bamas OL played much worse and Young didn’t throw fadeaways

Pocket awareness, stepping up in pocket, feeling pressure, scrambling, running in straight lines vs 7 jukes to get lit up, running out vs getting extra 3-4 yds every other teams qb gets, throws off back foot, waits for wr to come 2 seconds running open vs throwing off timing and rhythm of route, scrambling from clean pocket, not throwing it away when 10 yds out of pocket vs taking 5 sacks a game and huge losses. And never keeps read option when every team 100% bites on the rb

The OL did really well. Don’t know what you saw

He still has time to improve. He’s a true sophomore. Next year, with the proper guidance, he can come out guns blazing.
People said the same thing about Burrow in early to mid 2018, believe it or not.

Is that our incompetent staff chose to put all of the team’s eggs in his basket
A pocket passer with a less than avg OL loses his top receiver. He is never a true option to run the ball, and when they decide to roll him out and the defense has no one to account for him, he travels 35 yards to gain 5. LMAO
If a kid with Nussmeier’s ability starts the 2nd H and completes just ONE pass, I know he could have never attempted another and won last night’s game with his feet
Seems like an exaggeration, but I’m dead serious. Just being an actual threat on read options and making reads. What a novel concept, I know. LOL

He throws like 2020 Drew Brees. That’s far from a gun.

I find the most frustrating thing to be grown arse adults ripping on this kid at every chance. Is he the answer, likely not. But he played his heart out. Are there mechanic issues, yes, but with Anderson blowing passed people like they weren’t trying to block, I’d likely get tired of being hit and throw off my back foot trying to save myself. All that to say, I think Nuss should be given a shot, Max doesn’t appear to be ready, but hating on him by people twice his age at every opportunity just seems silly.

Max doesn't play with proper basic technique. That's the one thing he should have down. Especially with his average at best athleticism.

not stepping into his throws and throwing off back foot sails MOST of his passes high

I disagree. Name 1 play on a scramble where he cuts it up field and makes a play to go get something for his team. I dont see a kid playing his heart out. See someone playing scared and the moment is too big. Feel bad for him in that sense, but when you lose to Kentucky and auburn and say in the presser I only missed 1 throw, kinda get the sense he feels like he doesn't think he's playing bad at all. When it's glaringly obvious if you flip auburn, ole miss, bama qbs with ours, we roll in each 1 of those games.

Yeah, but you could see the improvement in Burrow towards the end of the 18' season.

Max will not be the starter next year. I know he's young but big time QB would have shown improvement by now. I am no guru by I see no improvement game after game. The same puzzled look on his face

quote:Not everyone on here is 50. And Max isn't a kid. He is a young man. We have people overseas his age. He plays for a premier college program that generates over 100M. He can make money off his name. It's essentially a business. None of these players are really amateurs.

He is playing poorly. His play costed LSU the game. If hearing that hurts his feelings then he needs thicker skin.

Max doesn’t appear to have the quick release and arm strength to be late on throws or throw well under pressure. He reminds me of Drew Brees type QB without Drew’s pinpoint accuracy and great anticipation. He needs to see it early and he needs a pocket to step into - like Brees.
He’s efficient on the short, quick release plays until the D starts sitting on the short routes. His current success as a QB is dependent on the entire team, OC, O-Line and WR. Max hasn’t developed the anticipation and confidence in both his accuracy and WR he needs to carry an offense. Can he? Maybe. In the meantime, the OC needs to call a different game or a QB with better arm strength with a quick release.
