If we settle with Napier…

Does that mean the LSU job isn’t as attractive as we think it is? You’d think with the facilities, the recruiting areas around, and the “brand” would create some serious demand for the job by the winningest coaches in cfb. I’m leaning towards it being too much of a lateral move and LSU isn’t as far and away better than most jobs now.

No. It means of the people Scott thinks we can get, Napier is his best.
You only ever have a couple of slam dunk choices. Anything after the "white whales" will probably still be capable of winning.

Title IX and cultural fit are negative issues with the LSU job

No.
We are fans of LSzu so we will always see it in a golden light. But the “big name” coaches may not come for various reasons: timing, geographical considerations, unwanted pressure cooker situations.
A lot of these big fish names became big fish in their current jobs - only ones that didn’t is Saban and jimbo. And Saban became a big fish at LSU.
Guys like Riley, Kelly, Dabo, Smart became big fish in their big job now. That could happen to Napier if he comes LSU

I think people are underestimating just how hard it is to pull top 5, or even top 10, coaches from their current jobs. Especially the ones who have been to the playoff.

Napier has a ton of successful experience at the high level. I don't question his ability to run a ship at that high level.
He has been mentored by Nick, Dabo, and Todd Graham

I agree, actually. I think there 3-4 coaches who would crush it at LSU. Riley would be best case scenario, but if he doesn’t pan out, guys like Napier and Aranda could still come in and win a championship in 3 years.

I’m don’t think Napier would be a Bad choice. He’s got all the intangibles LSU would look for.

The job is an upper echelon job
Coaches at other upper echelon jobs don’t leave so by default the available coaches are not from upper echelon schools
When people understand this they can get over pie in the sky expectations for who the new coach will be
Saban, Day, Riley, Sweeney are not leaving their current jobs so the pool becomes Kelly,Franklin, Fisher, Fickel
The the next level comes into play such as Aranda, Napier, Tucker,Clawson
My 1st realistic choice would be Fickel followed by Aranda/Napier
If it gets past those 3 the program will revert back to the 60’s 70’s and early 80’s type teams
I don’t think it will get as bad as the 90’s because the commitment is stronger now
Not a troll my true feelings on the subject

Coaches are just people with real lives and problems. I was recently offered a job in St Louis with a pretty substantial raise, but we decided to stay put. Our kids love their school and thats extremely important to us and we don't want to frick that up. My wife loves her job and most of her friends are people she works with. We like our house and it's location. We're happy, why frick with that.

No.
It just means that while a lot of money is nice, people tend to underestimate the attraction of stability and staying where you’re at.
Most of the big names already have more money than they can spend in 3 lifetimes. What they also have is roots. Another 2-3 million per year is not life-changing money to them.

Wow, that’s a bad take.

That’s one thing a lot of LSU fans aren’t really considering. Top coaches make so much money now that simply outbidding their current school isn’t gonna do it unless you REALLY outbid them. 20 years ago, big difference between a guy making $400k and $1.2 million. But $10 and $12? Meh.
And yes, the LSU job is top 5 in a vacuum. If there were a Harvard graduate school for college football coaches and the top guy in the class got to come out and choose between Oklahoma and LSU, of course he’d choose LSU. But we’re not in a vacuum. Timing matters so much. Riley’s been in Norman almost 8 years now. He’s got a wife that probably has a lot of friends there. He’s got 2 young daughters that also have friends there. Probably go to a great school that they love. Probably live in a nice neighborhood with neighbors they enjoy. Friends they’ve made. Maybe a church they attend where they love the pastor and the congregation. Maybe a lake he loves to take his girls tubing. Or a secret spot he’s discovered near a brush, just off the bank, where the fish are always biting.
Oklahoma has a Republican governor, whose conservative values may be more in line with the Riley’s’. I also think I saw where they do a good bit of charity work there. He is the king of Norman, Oklahoma. And his wife is the queen. They have set roots, formed friendships, tied bonds. They’re a part of a community. He’s not giving all that up to make $12 million per year instead of $10 million (though I think OU would probably go $12 if they had to).
And there’s job security concerns for not only him, but his entire staff, most of whom he’d be asking to uproot their families to follow him as well, though they won’t be making the same kind of money as him and will be the 1st ones sacrificed if a season goes sour. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Timing matters so much more than has been given credit for on here.

Have you checked how many P5 to P5 coaching changes there are? It rarely happens. Jimbo is the only coach in college football currently that went from one major P5 program to another.

I copied and pasted my post from another thread of mine without reading any of the posts in here besides the OP. Finally, a thread with people with some sense. Thank you.

Napier knows where he stands, thats why all the talk of other interviews is starting. Also, should tell you that he didnt turn down other SEC offers. He cant say he turned LSU down this time, because we have witnessed him actively campaigning for it
He will now go to a school where most knowledgeable people have said he needs on his resume, to prove himself
