Jimbo is the crazy crossroads of completely settling while paying the highest salary

The only sales pitch of Jimbo is that we should have a decent floor. That's it. Our ceiling is severely capped and we will have no leeway to change directions once we sign him to a TAMU-like contract (you think $17M is a lot? That's less than 2 seasons of what we're about to pay Jimbo).
Jimbo is a lot more similar to O than many on here want to believe. Yes, he will recruit well. However, while O was simply a complete moron who thought he was smart enough to run one side of the ball, Jimbo is arrogant and has let the game pass him by while he demands to control one side of the ball. Jimbo's track record on offense (especially at QB) has been bad-mediocre since 2013 (Jameis regressed MASSIVELY in his 2nd year starting).
Like O, Jimbo will require a magical 2019 where a magical transfer falls into our laps to save us; the problem (at least what I fear based on his career) is that Jimbo would never permit his pride to lower himself to that sort of acceptance. Jimbo will run out his pet QBs who are meh (or worse) because they're his guys. And we will be stuck with that and completely limited by that.
Jimbo = Relatively high floor + Mediocre ceiling.
Why would Woodward make such a shitty hire and how can our boosters be so insane to agree to this deal? Woodward is going to severely tarnish whatever reputation he has left if he hires Jimbo. Completely uninspired and pretty damn bad (borderline irrational when you add in the contract).

It’s a smokescreen
I think….I hope
For whom?… my guess would be Dabo, Aranda, or Kelly

Idiot.
If 115-35 as a HC is settling sign me up.

How many times has he made the playoffs without Jameis?
Jameis is the FSU Burrow

You have influential people that still yearn for any connection to Saban. A lot of those guys really liked Jimbo then
Then there’s the arrogance of well he’s been ok at A&M but we’re LSU and he’ll be sooo much better now

You really don’t need a smokescreen for Aranda.
I’d replace his name w/ CUM. The others you mentioned also fit.

Nah in that era, Jimbo was still one of the better offensive coaches so that’s nit fair
But the game has changed and he hasn’t shown much to embrace that change

The Athletic Department should be set on fire if that's the hire, with Scott Woodard's corrupt arse in it. Signing the same coach to not one but two $100M+ contracts at separate schools is worthy of investigation.

I melted in 05 when we didn’t just promote him
Melted in 15 when Jindal and F King interfered
Then melted in 16 when it wasn’t him or Herman
Now if it is him I don’t really feel anything. Growing up sucks

He also wasn't lighting it on fire in recruiting QBs. Same at TAMU.
in 2015 he would have been a great hire, but his time at TAMU has shown what he's about at a major program in a major conference.

It would be a very uninspiring hire with enough silver linings that I would talk myself into it.
Honestly, I think he's end up being a very expensive slight upgrade of Les.

While I compared him to a version of O in this thread, I think a Kmart version of Kirby Smart is the real comparison.
Great at recruiting (esp on the lines).
Dinosaur offense.
Will shite the bed at least once a year.

It is a pretty underwhelming and uninspired hire, if it holds to be true.
His floor is something like 8 wins, which would be great for a lot of other programs. But then his ceiling isn't much higher, maybe 10 wins.
The seldom year he gets that 11th win against a team like Bama and his team looks legit, he's shown he'll drop an inexplicable game to someone like Miss St. (who seems to have his number) or Arkansas.
His W-L record will be great on paper, but not perennial contender worthy. He'll have records like 8-4, 9-3, 10-2, 9-3, 11-1, 9-3, 10-2, etc etc.
Just good enough to have a great win percentage overall, but never quite getting over the hump when he loses that inexplicable game to keep his team out of the playoff

Amen man
Said something similar but not as poetically last night.
Woodward signing off on this is sealing his own fate.
But what's the worst thing in all of this is La politics. So many people on this very board suck off Woodwaed so much he can't do any wrong same with Jimbo thay we'll be 6 yrs into this massive contract without a championship stuck with both and the realization we truly have to start from scratch.
Woodward is positive in many aspects but his negatives are fricking exponential.

Right but like Jane said….we’re really going to be married to this one
He’s an older coach with an already dated offense. With the contract we’ll have to give him we’re on this train for at least 5-6 years

The entire rationality and watching these people talk themselves into Jimbo Fisher is a straight hostage negotiation. It's almost in par with Ed O. We're noelw sympathizing with bad LSU decision makers like we have a bullet to out heads.
Its OK. Its OK to admit LSU had crap for leaders and decision makers.
