I'm actually on my way to bed.

I just had to get this thread out of my head so it didn't become one of my famous "I've been thinking about making a thread about this for a while" memes.

I can see the similarities, but I think Kirby is much better than Jimbo.

Kirby is a great defensive coach who just hasn't figured out how to manage the offensive side of the ball.

Jimbo is 100% responsible for his dinosaur offense and what's his defense like without Elko?

It’s like buying a used Subaru, it’s got mileage but it won’t breakdown on me. Though no one will be overly impressed with it

Only I’m paying 80k on this used Subaru and did a 10 year term

While I compared him to a version of O in this thread, I think a Kmart version of Kirby Smart is the real comparison. Great at recruiting (esp on the lines). Dinosaur offense. Will shite the bed at least once a year.

As someone who watches UgA games every yr I can say definitively it's a close comparison except Kirby has been way more consistent than Jimbo. His recruiting classes have been way higher and his results better (sans championship) in his early career.

It's like buying the Subaru where you almost had sex with your high school crush in, but it didn't happen at the last minute, then she went and fricked 283 other guys in the same car, never cleaned up, and popped out 4 kids...now you buy that car for the memories and you may get stuck with the trailer park queen (and those other guys' kids).

Why would Woodward make such a shitty hire and how can our boosters be so insane to agree to this deal? Woodward is going to severely tarnish whatever reputation he has left if he hires Jimbo. Completely uninspired and pretty damn bad (borderline irrational when you add in the contract).

Jimbo is 56...already won a NC

Only former assistant to beat Saban...and that A$m teach is not that great with back up QB

Jimbo will excel at LSU

He will be energized being in BR...

For $80k and a 10-year note at 25% interest.

LSU had that a few years ago and fired him due to doing practically the same thing Jimbo has throughout his career. Great win loss record and not ma wealth of hardware to show for it. 114-34 with 1 NC (2 apperances) and 2 SEC titles. Les did it in the SEC though.

Good numbers but the standards are just higher now. I just can't see Jimbo breaking that mold and being the gold standard.

If 115-35 as a HC is settling sign me up.

Add to that 8-2 bowl record. A natty as HC and OC and 3 conference championships.

But,but, but Mel Tucker beat Michigan last week at home. So, there’s that!

How many in the SEC? How many since 2014?

If we're paying Jimbo $10M+ then he has to be beating Saban/Kirby regularly by 2023. If not, the commitment simply isn't worth it. The risk of hiring someone who cannot regularly beat Saban/Kirby with the insane commitment (10/100 minimum) is too great.

Jimbo will command a premium (in both years and annual salary) and there is nothing to argue he's worth it. Jimbo couldn't compete with LSU under Les or Orgeron and we think he can magically compete with Saban by coming to LSU? Why? Why couldn't he make TAMU elite and what's different at LSU?

The only thing that is funny about this situation is the aggies insisting that it’s LSU fans being unrealistic and big talking when I’d say 85% of people on this board really really don’t want him.

I really don’t get our higher ups infatuation with jimbo. After the 2015 thing I moved on.

Don't get crazy here, buddy. I doubt there's a single person posting in this thread who would rather Tucker over Jimbo.

Exactly. He's 5 years older and has improved 0 since then. Whatever appeal he had in 2015 is gone. He is who he is.

Riley? Worth the risk. He's young and innovative (and will continue to be innovative). He actually has an argument (recruiting ability in the current landscape) for failure to win titles recently, but we're a perfect destination to cure that.

Same with Aranda and his alleged inability to recruit. Aranda won't require a record-breaking deal either. If he doesn't work out it will cost, but nothing like Jimbo. We will never get out from Jimbo's contract until he retires if we hire him. With the insane "must have a 4-5 year contract" rules of modern CFB, his buyout will always be $40-50M min. We ain't paying that.
