I came to this conclusion yesterday after watching some of the trial.

The prosecutor know Rittenhouse was not the aggressor and was acting in self defense. This trial is being done by the DA for two purposes.

1. They are diffusing more violence and riots that would come if they did not press charges.

2. They are using the trial to show that Rittenhouse was acting in self defense.

The prosecution is essentially complimenting the defense arguments. They are letting this play out.

This is spot on. They are using the trial to demonstrate how this played out. It's very clear in listening to both the prosecution and the defense that this was self defense. It's shitty that this kid has spent time in jail because of it, but, I actually understand why they are doing this the way they are doing it.

this may be true in this instance

If Rittenhouse gets off they probably know they're dealing with angry ANTIFA methheads and NBC hosts, not thousands of black protestors/rioters. They probably see that as a decent outcome with relatively low risk ("we tried, but the evidence didn't get us there.")

Contrast that with the Rolfe situation in Atlanta, where nobody wants that case but they're (rightfully) concerned about wider unrest if the drop it.

It's kind of amusing because you're dealing with the same instigators in both, but I just don't think the white radicals would have as much success getting the unrest going over the killings of two white lefty shitbags. Easier to get it going over the justified shooting of a guy who fought the cops. Weird world.

If they press charges on Gage, then I agree. Hard to see this is the play if they don’t pursue him. They need to shut that vigilante shite down. He almost executed an iinnocent man.
