Look at that roster he’s built at A&M

I’ll take that roster over ours all day

Imagine the recruits he could bring in here

Jimbo's career winning percentage is 77%. That's puts him behind only Saban and Dabo (80%) among active coaches.

Jimbo is a good "fall back" if you can't get Riley imo. He is pretty much a guaranteed 10 win coach here with top 5 classes. He would be better here than A&M. I think people discount cultural problems at LSU right now that he is pretty much a guarantee to fix. In that sense, he is a very "safe" hire to protect the program and brand. He has national title potential too, but I get it isn't as exciting as hiring our version of Nick Saban or Urban or Kirby Smart. 5 years ago, would have been thought of as an elite hire. Now, a "good" hire which is fine.

I’m the last person that wants Jimbo, but…

Everyone all makes fun of A&Ms program and culture as the reason for not being able to win championships. These same people blame Jimbo for not doing it at the school.

Which one is it? We can’t have it both ways here.

It's not Jimbo. I'm sure he's on the list but we'd have to strikeout to get to him. There's no way he's the #1 guy. That marriage ended when we hired O. The buyout was likely done intentionally because Jimbo probably does want to come to LSU. It doesn't mean we mutually want that right now. He hasn't done anything since he had Winston at QB and LSU knows that by now. He's a guy who will keep you a respectable program but that's about it.

Does anyone really want Jimbo or are people just afraid that because Woody brought him to aTm he will also bring him here?

That "Marriage" quite literally started when we hired O.

He was a hot name then not anymore. His offenses are not getting better and he's starting to get old. He's approaching mid 50s. We need a younger coach who can establish his identity with the program and be here for 10+ years. He has hit his ceiling already and it's nothing downhill moving forward. A guy like Riley on the other hand, is young and could establish himself as the coach in the west. He also has potential to grow as a coach like a player. Even Napier is a sexier pick because he's younger even if he's higher risk. Jimbo is a boring arse safe hire that doesn't do much for our fanbase.

And he still loses 3-4 games a year with this supposed impressive roster he's built. What's your point?

Look, he's not my first choice by any means, I just think that's who the hire is going to end up being, everything you're saying makes sense, but I still think it's going to be Jimbo

To play devil's advocate, we seem to be in a rhythm of being in the national title picture every 5 years or so. It's the interim periods that we want to stay relevant and in the conversation, which with Jimbo I think everyone agrees would happen. Yes, he would need to hit big with a QB to get in the title game (which is possible btw with our pipeline), but who else on the list can you definitively say has the same downside protection? With Jimbo, I think you are NY6 caliber annually. If you can't get a legend, he might be the next optimal choice.
