How many times have you seen your Dad or Grandpa cry?

1 each for me.
My dad: we were on vacation in Colorado and my Mom (an alcoholic) went on a rage for some fricking reason and my dad tried to comfort me and my little sister when she stormed out to find a bar. I remember it vividly as it was the day Jaromir Jagr made his comeback to the NHL and I was big into hockey at the time. I just sat on the couch watching the game and tried to ignore them. I have no other memories of that trip.
My grandpa: my whole extended family takes a trip to the beach every year. We’re talking 3 condos, ~30 people. One night my grandpa was telling a story about his brother who had passed away several years prior. All of a sudden he just stops, puts his hand over his eyes and starts weeping. My dad and aunts were all shocked to the point that everyone in the room didn’t really know what to do. I think that might have been the first time they experienced such emotion from him as well.

As my Dad has gotten older he has starting to show his emotions more
Most of my life I would say only 1 or 2 times, the last few years it’s been several
My Grandpa just once when my Grandma passed

Grandpa...never...though I did see what Alzheimer's can do to make a 6 foot 3 man I've always looked up to seem like a lost, frightened child. Evil disease I hope they find a cure for.
Dad...once. Funeral for grandfather. One tear, wiped away quickly. I'm sure there were more I didn't see.

I lost my 20 year old son to cancer this year. My dad was here when we decided to put my son into hospice. My dad knew that was the last time he was ever going to see him alive.
He broke down like I've never seen before

Never saw either of my Grandpas cry, but both passed away when I was younger. The only time I saw my Dad cry was when my grandmother passed away.

I don’t know enough about your mom to pass judgment, but mentally ill family members that ruin family vacations piss me off.

holy shite dude! I hate that you had to go through this. You experienced every parent's worst nightmare. I'm going to say a prayer for you and your family tonight. Wish there was something else to say, but what the hell can I say. I'm so sorry...

True crying, not just welled up eyes—Literally never for either. Not even in death. Genetic code must have told us all to do that shite in private.
I left my grandfathers wake briefly to go for a walk and cry it out solo, and my old man found me and asked me why I went off. I said I needed a minute.
And he said, “I don’t like crying in front of other people either,” and walked away.

They did that shite in private.
Dad - when pow pow died. On the phone with me and quickly hung up. Made a joke about it at his funeral.

My dad cried the day my mom died. Never saw it before or after.
Right after she died he wondered around the house for a minute, and finally sat down on the edge of the bathtub, looked up and me said he had "just lost his bride of 47 years". Made me cry too.
