The last thing you want out of your pointer is catching birds out of the air.

And no they are not.

He isn't catching the bird out of the air, he is jumping a fence with a bird in his mouth.

Been bird hunting my entire life. Back in the day my grandfather and dad and uncles would always have 5-10 English pointers. We hunted all over the country, mostly Texas. I got my first gsp 3 years ago and honestly I had no idea a bird dog could be like them. You could throw a 5lb shop hammer in the pen with a pointer and they would tear it to pieces. I now have a mamma dog and one of her pups and they literally sleep on the couch in the house all day until it is time and they can absolutely flip a switch. They’re good with little kids and excellent hunters. I know not everyone has had the best experiences but as far as I’m concerned they’re awesome dogs.

Nah. Great at what they do, but you can't beat a lab for all around best dog breed.

In one sentence you outed yourself as an alter.

There's no way a real Gump would praise a Tiger.

English pointers seem like they wear down, GSP's have insane stamina.

GSP's carry pheasant like a tennis ball while some other bird dogs struggle.

I've never known anyone that had a bad experience with a GSP. (Other than owners not being aware of just how much energy GSP'S have).

ha. But it's true.
They are the Bo Jacksons of dogs.
They are just freakish athletes.
Strong, fast, can do everything.

So you’ve never known anyone that had a bad experience with a GSP, except the people you know who have had a bad experience.

I’m sure they’re great bird dogs, but every one I’ve been around made crackheads seem calm.

They’re also really versatile. Being that we can hardly finds wild birds anywhere to hunt anymore, I’ve started training my puppy to shed hunt and track deer. They can about do it all.

I grew up hunting over English pointers and setters. They were all pretty good hunting dogs. I have a pint sized female GSP who is off the charts intellectually and hunting. 40 lbs soaking wet but hunts as hard as anything I’ve ever seen. I wish I hadn’t had her fixed.
They are mini tornadoes in a house but I’m sold on this breed. I grew up a lab guy. Still love them but these dogs are on another level.

The last GSP I had was an 80 lb female.
She was a beast.
Strength to get through any thicket, carry pheasant like a tennis ball, great retriever in water.
Best dog I've ever had.

English Pointers and setters don't seem to have the stamina of a gsp, they wear out and kind of quit.
I've never seen a gsp tap out, they are a different breed.

I think there are some great GSPs and some great GSP hunting lines. I also think the popularity of the breed over the last 20 years has breed a lot of dogs that are not what the breed once was. These lines have reduced a great hunting breed into dogs that are neither great in the home or the field.

You need to work on your reading comprehension.

The issue was the owners own ignorance of the gsp breed and their energy level, not an issue with the dog.

Do a little research on a breed before you buy the dog.
