Almost like it’s coordinated to lay the groundwork.

Maybe I just have Post Ponamsky Stress Disorder, but I’m getting bad vibes that this could be another fast track “get my guy” hire.

While Napier isn’t my top choice, I’d have absolutely no problem with him as long as I felt there was a legitimate nationwide search with exhaustive interviews with top candidates and Woodward felt he made the best case.

The trend of these in season searches/hires make it impossible to do that and are driven by fear that someone will hire “your guy” before you can.

Let the other school make the blind leap while you do your due diligence and find the guy who presents the best vision to make LSU the next dynasty for two decades.

Napier may be the next great coach, but this isn’t a Peterson or Jimbo situation where you’re pulling a coup to get a proven elite coach.

If you’re better than this guy Woodward, prove it.

Noticing that my self. Don’t be fooled. The media no matter who it is will say what they need to say to keep their access. That includes all the espn and even MM and JC.

Scott has them all in his hands and he is the puppet master.

I promise, whomever the next coach is, that Woodward will do his due diligence.

I was going to start a spread about the life cycle of a coaching search. I think this is hilarious.

1-random stuff thrown out..."lists"
2-plane tracking
3-pie in the sky options that are not truly realistic. Not saying LSU cannot attract the best, but it takes a rare scenario to accomplish this. People that are good at their job are treated well where they are.
4-the real life options start. this is where we are. FTR I would love Napier, and I do not believe that LSU is "settling" for him if it happens.
5-unhappy people continue to be unhappy.
6-he starts coaching and we begin to have actual results to judge.

I guarantee Scott didn’t just start the coaching search. He’s probably been on it since the UCLA game ended and has a pretty good idea of who is going to be our head coach.

Yeah it’s weird and definitely seems coordinated.

I would be completely happy with Napier, you don’t get offered looked at for 5 SEC jobs (and turn them down) if you’re not a quality coach. Plus he’s the best recruiter in the state of Louisiana right now

The Initial "We don't want Napier" talk was all driven from Mascona saying "LSU won't even consider a coach from UL. We're LSU, we hire big names, blah blah blah"

Didn't he pass on Auburn and South Carolina last year? Someone must've told him to just wait it out...

Was not a Napier fan at first. Do research. Talk to coaches who have worked with him. Been told he's as close to a young Nick Saban as any coach out there. Driven, focused, self confident and very hungry. South Carolina and Auburn offered him their jobs after one interview. Miss St did the same the year before. Go inside his program and look at the culture he's built....100x better than what we have at LSU now. He will be a good hire if he's the guy.

It's a shift pushed by the good ole boys in Louisiana because that's who they want.

My feeling is that Woodward will swing for the fences on two or three big names, and when those don't happen he will "settle" for Napier. If you can't get the proven commodity, you get the up-and-comer.

I agree with this. I bet Scott has a couple "dream candidates" that he'll throw a hail Mary at and if they decline he'll circle back to Napier.

Do you really believe that the TOP TOP candidates like potentially Lincoln Riley or Brian Kelly avail themselves to exhaustive interviews?

They don't.

I got this feeling last year and I believe there was a thread where it was discussed.

i dont think so, i think its more people are realizing who and what he is.

i mean in the end Woodward needs to do all the interviews and hire who he thinks is best.

personally napier was #3 on my list behind riley and cristobal.

but for example, many here are clammoring for Kiffen and if you start comparing Kiffen to Napier....Napier has done better than Kiffen did at FAU. Kiffen hasnt done anything at his P5 stops to make people want him. i mean unless you want to count this years OM team. Which he inherited many of those players.

Kiffen isnt some recruiting god either, last year he finished with the #6 class in conference, for 2022 he is 10th in conference currently.

essentially Napier's body of work is better than Kiffens.

People are starting to come to that realization.

Napier has built ULL after 3 straight losing seasons and probation.
