Since the Lakers are going to win the lottery for us and give us the #1 pick in next year's draft, I figured we should have a dedicated thread to discuss their craptacular efforts this season.
They'll get their first loss tomorrow night to GSW. I can't wait.

I still think they’re likely going to win a ton of regular season games just due to top heavy talent. But they are soooo dependent on staying healthy to get too far into the playoffs. It will be just like last year where if James or Davis miss any time they’re in dire straights. James missed most of the regular season and they plummeted to the play in.

Man its hard to see how much the Lakers aka LeBron is in Pelicans fans heads....
As a Pels fan the lakers have zero to do with anything I can about. They will continue to be great no matter what.... It's the Lakers/Celtics just like baseball is the Redsox/Yankees...
As a small market team, the Pelicans and especially fans should not waste any energy on big market teams like the Lakers who have multiple championships and will likely continue to win more while the small market teams are complaining...
Focus that energy on the guys that are here, focus that energy on building a better basketball culture, I think thats what gets lost in all of this in NOLA....
OKC has done a great job with that, San Antonio is the blueprint...just wish the fan base would buy in, never has.... and likely never will.
(sorry had to drop some truth even though I know I will get destroyed)

Speaking of overrated NBA players, Westbrook is probably the most overrated player in the NBA for the past several years and I've got him in my all-time top 5 most overrated in the history of the NBA.

Lakers expected to go with a starting lineup of Russell Westbrook, Kent Bazemore, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and DeAndre Jordan in tonight’s season-opener against the Warriors

I would love to see Davis rupture his Achilles early in the season, if LeBitch or Westbrook get a major injury that would be great as well.

In 35 minutes, Westbrook was 4-13 from the field for a total of 8 points. He had 4 assists band 4 turnovers, and his +/- ended up at -23.
The preseason doesn't look like a fluke now, does it? Westbrook looks washed. Carmelo is washed. Last night, LeBron had 35 and AD had 33, but no one else scored in double digits. Both LeBron and AD had 11 rebounds too, and no one else had double digits -- AD and LeBron have to do all the work. How long can that continue until they get hurt?

So, Dwight Howard got in a fight with AD last night in the middle of the game?
In their home opener last night, the Lakers lost to the Suns, 115-105.
Surprisingly to me, it looks like Westbrook didn't actually play badly in this one. He had 15 points and 9 assists to only 5 turnovers.
It seems to me that the Lakers simply lack good scoring options after you get past LeBron and AD. The only reason that this game against the Suns was close was that Carmelo got hot and went 4-6 from deep to give them 16.
Bazemore started again for the Lakers and scored 4 points and had 1 assist in 23 minutes. Like, seriously, you think that the Pelicans have problems at the guard position? Bazemore scored 8 in the opener at GSW, but he's now shooting 29% from the field in these two games.
How did the Lakers think that he was going to work out for them? Last season with GSW, he averaged 7 points per game, and that was when he was 31 years old.
And there other guard option is Malik Monk, who gives up way more than he gets. I didn't realize just how bad a defender Monk is, but he's terrible. Monk was -19 last night and was -10 against GSW, and he had a negative +/- in their preseason games as well, because he can't guard squat.
Back to the fight, though. Should I show you my shocked face? Are any of you surprised that Dwight is having trouble getting along with a teammate? Are any of y'all now starting to believe that we might get that pick after all?

And, without LeBron, they lose to the Thunder. Yeah, the team that's starting the ghost of Derrick Favors at center and is still in tank mode -- that team.

At the Staples Center with 2 minutes left, the Lakers are up by two over the Spurs. The Spurs, folks. Outside of AD and LeBron, the Lakers have nothing.
Edit: the Lakers held on, but Westbrook is washed, folks. We see it more every single day. Today was another 7-turnover day for him. He's going to pick up his player option for next season, and the Lakers are going to be dreadful next year, one of the conference's true bottom feeders.

LeBron no talky talky to the media after the game. More trouble in Laker Land!

Loss to the Pacers last night, and Vogel keeps Westbrook on the bench in crunch time. Wow. Lakers beat writer for The Athletic, Bill Oram:
quote:
Frank Vogel leaves Russell Westbrook on the bench at the end of a tight game when his coaching future is, as @theathletic reported yesterday, being evaluated game-by-game. That doesn't speak volumes, it's screaming.

Per @TheNBACentral
quote:
Report: LeBron James willing to leave Lakers in order to play with Bronny "But he’s made it very clear that he wants to play with his son. If that situation is available outside L.A., he’ll pursue it.”

Remind me - if the Lakers don’t give us their top 10 pick this draft, what do we get instead?
