I know out West or the far Northeast is far better, but who has gone skiing in the Southeast? TN, NC, WV, VA, etc. My kids are young and not sure if they would be into it and would prefer doing a more low key ski trip before going big at one of those name brand resorts out West. If you did it...where and how was it? Much more budget friendly?

Snowshoe, WV is probably the best.

I've never been skiing out west to compare. Supposedly the SE has more ice in its snow which I guess isn't great for skiing. It was mostly machine made snow when I went.

Ober in Gatlinbug is fun, but it is man made snow and had two slopes open and was pretty narrow and packed, so it was hard to navigate.

Snowshoe of those options. you should also consider the quality of ski instruction as well. Consider Utah. Tons of resorts within a short drive of Salt Lake

Snowshoe is best but Boone/Banner Elk is a fun trip. Sugar Mountain and Appalachian Ski Mountain. Lines are long on holidays so I would avoid it.

We skied Sugar Mountain, NC when my kids were young and had a lot of fun. There was only one day of icy slopes. Much more affordable than skiing out west.

Boone/Banner Elk isnt bad. Snowshoe WV is the closest to skiing out west that you will find over here.

Love Sugar Mountain in NC. We always went there when I was a kid. Gatlinburg is fine for just seeing if your kids like it but it’s not impressive at all.
