Baseball diamond and field. Basketball/Tennis court? Some golf course action but can’t tell the extent.

You peaked my interest when you posted this. The address for this property is 21245 Smith Rd, Covington, LA, and the lot size is 126 acres. So it appears that the golf course, tennis court, baseball field etc are privately owned for personal use. A little digging and I found this blurb about the property:

This address has been used for business registration by 47 companies. These are some of the names: Manti Resources, Inc and Padre Island Gulf Front, LLC.

That would be Tensas, which has some beautiful places around St. Joe.

There are beautiful old houses all over LA in unexpected places. Many are just rotting away.

The Rankin house in the Big Branch area between Bayou LaComb and Mandeville.

quote:

Here is the text from the 1991 application that puts forward those arguments in the case of the Rankin House. Photos were taken by Donna Fricker in October of 1990:

The Rankin House (1939) is a ten room, two story, Modernistic villa constructed of hollow tile with decorative brick facing. The house enjoys a very attractive setting near Mandeville on scenic Cane Bayou amid numerous mature trees. The villa fell victim to the scandals of 1939, and work was never finished. Unaltered since the day construction stopped, the Rankin House has stood as a shell for over 50 years.

In the 1990's the building became the home and television studio of famed Cajun humorist and cook Justin Wilson.

It is, but damn it use to be so much better. Just the fate of most small cities/towns in the South it seems.

From the 70s through the 90s Winnfield was a 2A school that played, and regularly beat, 4A and 5A schools. At one point in the eighties LSU had four starters from Winnfield on the football team at the same time. 5 or 6 NFl players, a couple of MLB players and an NBA player came from Winnfield/Winn parish. All those guys moved away and their offspring played elsewhere. Now Winnfield struggles to go .500 and winning a game in the first round of the playoffs is a big accomplishment.

Valiance electronics. It was my first investment. People around here were making bank on the stock. It was the talk of the parish. So I took all my 20 year old self had in the bank, about 3k, and bought me some. It promptly cratered and took my 3k with it.

On our way to Mobile we got re-routed through a small farming community in LA named Bunkie. Most of it was mid-century homes in various conditions but there were some turn of the century homes in the middle of town, some of those were gorgeous and well-maintained. Sorry no pics
