... it used to be one of the best in the southeastern US, but it's now hardly worth the money to bother to buy it .. no in-depth reporting, horrible columns .. just a piece of shite .. nice work butch muir ..

is the guy who wrote sunday's column about Les the new guy? if so he fricking sucks

nah .. actually george morris has been around for ages .. back when the state times existed he was one of its main writers .. bob brodhead actually got morris removed from the lsu beat years ago .. i didn't realize he was still with the paper until i saw his sunday column ..
rabalais was a little better, but the quality of his writing had started lacking too .. i think that might have had a lot to do with his job search ..

I talked to a few guys that said Morris and Feinswog have been asked to do some some freelance stuff b/c of the shortage.

that would make sense because i didn't think morris still worked there .. actually, i think morris is a good writer .. his column sunday was a little vanilla and thrown together looking ... it would be good to have feinswog back, as much as he sucks on TV talk .. he's really an outstanding sports writer .. something's gotta be done, because they've lost a lotta good writers over the last 5 years .. if the advocate put 1/3rd the effort they do into covering high school football into other sports .. they'd be untouchable ..

I talked to Lee at the LSU/NT and he mentioned that he was covering that particular game for the Advocate. It's kind of bizarre how all the writers are just dropping out. You can find information on the internet any time of day. There are countless places on the internet to get sports information. If the Advocate sports section doesn't inject some new blood and liven things up a bit it could be in danger of becoming completely obsolete.

the advocate should hire shea.

Its not just the Advocate. top writers are bailing out of print news media at an alarming rate due to the proliferation of internet news. The papers that don't beef up the online content are getting left behind.

shea is back up in Memphis I believe nap

he's been tight lipped. hell I haven't seen any shea's tidbits on scout so I'm not sure if he's still writing for them

i think the local sports section HAS become obsolete, josh .. if something happens at 10PM monday, it doesn't get into the paper until wednesday morning .. by then, it has been all over the internet and discussed, been on the local sports, all over ESPN, etc. .. the sports section has to be about features and in-depth reporting .. like the USA Today is ... the advocate is still operating off of the same forumula it had in the 80s .. pre-internet ..

Picked up the Mobile paper on the way home from Auburn. Pretty good SEC section

I'd imagine shiefelbein is pretty pumped about not having to attend SU games anymore

the press register is solid with the SEC stuff, the atlanta journal constitution is too .. at one time the advocate was one of the best in the SEC .. it's prolly not in the top 8 anymore ..
