Why does the first twinge of fall prompt me to re-read this book for the umpteenth time??
FYI I love this book and don’t care that some of you find it pedestrian.

I love it, but I have only read it five times.

What ever happened to Tulanelsu? I hope he is okay. He seems to have disappeared.

He and his many alters have been banned.

It's in my top five, and I don't care what anyone else thinks about it. Have you ever listened to the audiobook version? It's well done and available on Audible.

My favorite fiction. And now that y'all have reminded me of it, I'll pick it up and read it again.

Who orates the audio version?

Barrett Whitener on Audible. I haven't heard of him as an actor, but he's reportedly an award-winning book narrator. He did A Reporter's Life by Cronkite and Undaunted Courage by Ambrose. A handful of others too.

Who could find this book pedestrian? And how?

people actually think this? sounds more like pompous people trying to be overly critical to knock down a classic. this is still one of my all time favorite reads

One of my favorites but it takes place in the summer doesn't it?

Link below is probably typical of contemporary reviews. But why would I let the New Yorker sit in judgment on who can capture a snapshot of NOLA life & people in the 60's? Toole had a great ear for dialogue and ability to sketch unforgettable characters. And caricatures! Want to give this one a re-read too.

It's written so well. It captures the accents perfectly.

A friend of mine gave me that book when I was recovering from back surgery. Great book ! I think I finished it in 3 days.
Never laughed so much reading a book.
The history behind the book is really sad though. Author kills himself and then the book becomes a Pulitzer prize winner.
