What is a good optic and rings recommendation for my new Browning BAR DBM in .308. Primarily used in Pearl River area of Mississippi for Deer/Hogs 100 yard shots and less. $600 is my upper price limit.

LPVO 1-4, 1-6 or 1-8 would be perfect for that gun and scenario.

2nd on the $600 Leopold.

How do you like the detachable box mag? I have a Browning Mark II Safari with a BOSS in a .30-06. I like the hinged mag but that boss makes it sound like you are shooting a cannon.

I have the Safari MKII 308 without the boss and that thing is a sweet shooter. I went a little cheaper and got the VX-Freedom 3x9x40 and haven't had any issues.

Have a stainless stalker in 270 with the boss and yeah that bitch is loud but anyone can shoot it recoil is very mild due to the brake. The browning detachable mag is probably the best on any bolt action rifle I have used. They proud of replacements though

ETA: mine is topped with a leupold vari-xII 3x9x50 and has been slaying deer since the late 90’s

I also have a Browning Bar 270. My magazine is not hinged. Also have the Boss. Other than being heavy to carry, (heavier than Remington 700) it’s a great gun. Have a $600 Leopold scope on it.

Is there only one size magazine for the DBM? Any larger capacity?

If that’s the one that has integral picatinny rails I’d go with a one-piece mount. I have an Aero Precision that I’m happy with but I doubt that’s the only good option.

Trijicon’s new Huron line comes in at $500 or less for the lower magnification ranges. Trijicon glass but no illuminated reticles, no tritium. I recently bought one and it’s not Vortex Razor or Leupold VX-5 glass, but it’s a lot closer than the price would suggest. I can tell a slight difference when switching back and forth with my Razor HD, but without comparing them side-by-side I doubt I could. A scope junkie probably could but I can’t.
