3 Strikes laws are the biggest factor in the decline in violent crime. More violent criminals are in prison, committing their violent crimes on other inmates

1973 also saw the birth of the DEA, given the link to drugs and violent crime, perhaps the war on drugs did it?

It's still not as low as it was in the 40s. Ask yourself why did it increase, not why is it half way lower.
Easy.
Baby Boom.
The vast majority of crime is committed by men aged 18-35. Now, as for the 40s. Uh. Men in that age bracket were somewhat occupied and then, after the war, their population was somewhat reduced!
Then, we had a baby boom. Which led to a shite ton of 18-35 year olds for a good amount of time until the baby bust.
And again. Since crime is computed as a RATE...........even if the men age 18-35 never stop committing crime with the same frequency per person aged 18-35, your rate will be enormously affected by first, a huge increase in 18-35 year olds FOLLOWED by a huge cratering of 18-35 year olds just as that other huge group gets old.

Does abortion being legal explain the dramatic drop in violent crime?

In all seriousness. How is it that none of you see how enormous a drive age demographics have been?
Everything else brought up is nothing but fractional effects on the edges.

Does abortion not have an impact on birth rate? And even more so the births of people likely to commit violent crime in the future?

If your deduction is that blacks have abortions at a much higher rate than whites; and blacks commit much higher rates of murder than whites, then your point is logical.
However, the logical extension is that blacks should be sterilized. And abortion can still be banned with murder rates plummeting. But do you really want to go there?

Where do you live, that there has been a dramatic drop in crime?

This tread is bullshite, to try to correlate killing innocent babies to a fall in crime is just complete lib conjecture and not so subtle racism.

Do they not have abortion in places like Chicago? If so, why doesn’t this work there?

Are you reading Freakonomics, baw? That book by Gladwell has a chapter on it.
I think it was coincidence, not causation. And crime is up in recent years, was abortion down 20 years ago?

He’s arguing a negative because it can’t be proven one way or the other.
You could say if abortions had been illegal, that crime would have been reduced by over 80%.
I could also say that crime has fallen in Colorado because I drive much less than I used to

Yes the expansion of gun rights for law abiding citizens and the movement toward self defense.

Of course
just an extremely tiny one compared to the pill and simply people choosing to have fewer children. I already said you probably could account for some fraction thru abortion. Just pales in comparison.

Violent rape is down a staggering amount in the past 25 years or so - that almost certainly has a lot to do with the rise of internet porn. One of the great, believed myths foisted on us by the feminist movement was "rape isn't about sex, it's about power". Truly and utterly preposterous. The marginal would-be rapist now just jerks off in his bedroom and is too spent to have the urge to go outside and harm someone.
