There is one right around the corner from my sister's house so we went there today for lunch. Based on the reviews you would think this is the greatest chicken on earth but it was anything but. Hardly any flavor at all. They say its hot and spicy but I sure didn't taste any of that. Fast Food fried chicken from KFC and Popeye's is better.

Never had Gus’s but the fact that you lump KFC and Popeyes together proves your opinion on all things food to be invalid.

I left Memphis a decade ago but when I was there the original Gus’s was the best fired chicken I’ve ever had.

Don’t know about other locations or if the original still holds up, but damn it was so good back in the day.

The one in Knoxville is pretty damn good. Blows KFC out of the water every time, and is better than Popeye's on a bad day but not as good as Popeye's on a good day.

I've been to the original Gus's in Memphis. The chicken was good, nut nothing special. Uncle Lou's in Memphis is much better and you can get it dipped in hot sauce.

The first time I ate the Memphis downtown location it was a near-religious experience. I ate 1/2 a bird for lunch, and liked it so much that I went back for dinner and ate another half bird. Comparing Gus's to Popeyes is like comparing ice cream to dog shite.

I've been to other locations that weren't quite as good - Austin, for example - but that location is always on-point. I also think it's the best fried chicken in NOLA.

I’ve been to the one in Memphis and it was just okay, the one in Southaven was about the same. Definitely overrated.

All I know is that the first time I ate at the one in Memphis it was incredible. Lived up to all the hype and then some.

The one in Bham may have the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. It’s amazing on hangover Sunday.
