It's not so much the coaches expectations to be considered as it is the players. Typically, players will rally behind an interim coach and will feel slighted if that coach is not considered for the HC position, especially if they win a couple games they arent supposed to at the end of the year.
See Orgeron's interim stint at USC and LSU. It's asking for locker room issues IMO, especially with the new transfer rules.
