Quarantine and Vaccination: HR Policies
Posted on 8/29/21 at 7:50 pm

My BIL works for a large multinational corporation. He’s vaccinated.
His wife contracted Covid. He was exposed. He asked his HR department if he should quarantine. They said, “No. You’re vaccinated and without symptoms. Come to work.” So he came to work. 3 days later, he’s symptomatic and at home.
Discuss.

If he has that in writing, he has a suit against the HR department, as does anyone who caught it from him.

Corporate HR policies are cookie cutter. They’re not designed for employee safety. They’re designed to lessen liability.

This is the problem right now…..
I had an employee who was sniffling, coughing, etc
Told him to go home
And get tested. He said, “I’m vaccinated. I can’t have covid”
It’s what these people were told and they don’t look at facts

They don’t know what to do but are trying to make it look like they’re “doing something” for optics.
My office (regional midsize firm with offices across the state) had 1 employee feel sick on a Thursday, tested positive on a Friday. The following Monday they send home the 3 people he had gone to lunch with the previous Wednesday to quarantine. We had all been in the office with him and them, but HR decided that lunch constituted a “close contact” so they needed to WFH. They came off quarantine that Wednesday, 2 days later. All of them said they were vaccinated.

None of this is about public health?
That's been true from the beginning. It's just a weapon, and they want to hurt us.

Only 2 of us at work are unvaccinated. They made it mandatory in April.
2 Mondays ago, one of my guys was feeling like crap. He went and got tested that evening....Negative. We had hearing tests last Monday. He was in my 4 person group in a tiny closed in trailer to test. Tuesday...I get called in the office by safety to tell me I have been exposed. They didn't bother testing anyone else that he had been around, just the people in the hearing test with him.
We have had several people teST positive after being vaccinated. We have had a few people sick, but they say they have been vaccinated so it's not the Rona.

My biggest annoyance with all this...
Bubba has Covid (we don't know if he vaxxed or not, but it doesn't matter at all). JoBeth, his wife, was vaccinated for sure. MaryJane, his skank girfriend, has not been vaxxed. They are all hanging out in the kitchen and Bubba snot-sneezes in both their faces. Which one has a higher chance of being INFECTED with Covid?
If you answered BOTH have the exact SAME chance (all comorbidities like diabetes, weight, heart disease etc being equal) to acquire covid, then you win the nobel prize for common sense. The ongoing fact being that if you took the vax, you will have a milder case of covid and nothing else. A persons vax status has zero to do with reducing transmission to others.
To the OP's question....it makes more sense to phrase it as: 'His wife contracted Covid. He was exposed. He asked his HR department if he should quarantine. They said, “No. You’re without symptoms. Come to work.” So he came to work. 3 days later, he’s symptomatic and at home.'
Point being if you are being singled out vaxxed OR non-vaxxed as being positive, your status makes zero difference as to the policy moving forward. Vax status has zero to do with whatever policy is put in place regarding POSITIVE people. My opinion is non of it matters because you spread it at the same rate whether you are vaxxed or not. It's all very stupid.

Why? They followed CDC guidelines perfectly. He should have tested on day 3-5 following the exposure though.

What is the nature of your BILs work? If it’s something that can be done from home, it seems that HR policy needs work if they’re actually trying to attain their goal.
Quarantine policies are stupid irrespective of vaccination status IMO, though. There is really no way to reliably quantify risk of exposure at the HR level.

It’s all about saying they did something, effective or otherwise.

For some reason, there are still some people that think the vaccine stops the spread.

Tell him he’s on his own, if he’s got sick days accumulated he can burn through those or non paid sick leave for his quarantine. If he’s got issues with that take it up w/ Fauci, Biden, or the CDC.

It’s not at-home work.

Another interesting part of this. I’m hearing of differing leave policies for vaxxed/non-vaxxed. If you’re not vaxxed and have to quarantine, there’s some difference with types of days used for some companies versus vaxxed.

The vaccine DOES NOT stop transmission of COVID. Period.
