Joey Galloway just said Clemson gets in CFP winning out after UGA loss

Only way Clemson should be in if they lose to UGA is if UGA wins SEC. Clemson would have lost to only team on their schedule with a pulse. I don’t think UGA can win SEC either

I hate that they are talking CFB playoff at halftime of a week 0 game, how about talking about the upcoming seasons for the Pac 12 and MWC

Late wins cover early losses. If Clemson runs the table after losing to UGA there would have to be a lot of undefeated teams to keep them out.

I thought ESPN was going to de emphasize playoff talk this year

Yep. This is what is killing CFB. Let the teams play and we can start CFP talk in November.

We freak out about the lack of parity in college football, but then commentators turn around and focus solely on the four spots for the playoff from the word go.

Yep. ESPN has a huge hand in a lot of the problems with CFB.

The CFB season hasn't even had a chance to wake up yet and they've already got the what ifing Clemson into the playoffs talk going. ESPN has just ruined everything that made college football what it was

What I came to post.

Speedy Joey isnt wrong
They will be in if that is their only loss.

I agree. If they don’t get blown out by UGA and win out they are probably in.

Let me make sure I understand.
You’re upset about a comment made by an ESPN commentator about a game that hasn’t happened yet, in the first week of the season?

Yes, beating a bunch of nobodys shouldn’t earn one a spot

You're getting a little ahead of yourselves. If they wreck shop and two of the other conferences have weak champs then sure it could definitely happen.

There's no probably about it unless this is an unprecedented season. There may be one undefeated p5 team at the end of the year and a loss to Georgia ain't keeping the second best program of the decade out of the playoff.
And I don't see the gripe in discussing this. Clemson v Georgia is next week and the implications are big. It's not like they're talking about LSU Bama in November.

I mean if they don’t, why on earth would they schedule a possible loss OOC ever again?

The gripe is the way they discuss it. From a business perspective, the discussion makes no sense for ESPN.
“Galloway, UGA-Clemson next week is a massive game we’re broadcasting. Who ya got?”
“Well Rece this game doesn’t actually matter because the loser can make the playoff anyways.”
“You heard it folks. May as well not watch this or any other game that isn’t a playoff game.”
I mean who the frick thinks that’s a good way to sell a product?

The game matters a lot. It is not even close to an elimination game for either team. If they used that angle, there would be more complains for intellectual dishonesty.
Like I said, it’s better to encourage games like this rather than immediately penalize the loser.

They don’t have to play the elimination game angle.
Just talk about how it’s a massive game between two elite teams then breakdown the matchup.
The only thing I’d say about the playoff is that the game has “early season playoff implications.” Maybe say “playing a big time opponent like this will help you with the committee come selection time.” At most say “this could be a playoff preview.”
Don’t say Clemson can afford a loss here. The NFL doesn’t market any game as a game that a team can afford to lose even though every team can afford to lose several games.
The Clemson/UGA is still alive discussion should come after the game.

The NFL markets the shite out of the parity of the league and anyone could beat anyone. You don't stop watching a team that's 3-6 because they're not even close to being out of the playoffs.
But I don't even know why I'm responding to uou, you would have complained no matter what they said
