This playoffs or bust has ruined what we once loved about CFB.
Can't even enjoy week 1 games without already arguing who should be in.
Looks like everything is once again predetermined by the talking heads.
Just put in the usual suspects and play a round-robin and everyone else can take their ball and go home I guess...that's what they want.

I think North Carolina beats Clemson. Sam Howell is the best QB in the ACC and top 5 in the country.

No, you are very close to being out of the playoffs the majority of the time. The Dolphins finished 10-6 last year and missed the playoffs.
A team that is 3-6 would have to win 6 of their last 7 games to finish 9-7. Far from rare for a 9-7 team to miss out on the playoffs.

Even if Georgia wins the East, they’ll have already lost to someone they shouldn’t have and then be on the playoff bubble like they are every year ever.

At 3-6, you're playing for bowl game. The 7th loss is the fatal one.
The problem with such a small CFP field is that there is actually not a lot of incentive to play a difficult nonconference schedule unless you're elite already.
This problem affects P5 and G5 schools.
Even if Tulane were to somehow beat OU this year, it actually wouldn't mean much of anything. Cincy are already locked in the top 10, and the only way to go anywhere is through them.
If I'm Iowa State, I'm #7. I don't need to gain credibility in nonconference - if I win out, I'm in.

A lot of shite would have to happen. They don't play Notre Dame, UNC, or Miami.
