Removing fence boards

What’s the consensus for removing some fence boards on standard wood fences? Worthless for a storm this strong? Good idea to possibly keep the fence up? How far should the spacing be?

I can go outside and tear up my fence and be guaranteed to have to work on it after the storm or I could leave it alone and maybe get lucky and not have to work on it. Seems like an easy decision.

You’ve probably got better uses of your time. If this bitch is as bad as she seems to think a few boards won’t make a difference

I have a shadow box fence. I removed every 3rd picket prior to Laura last year in LC and my fence was still mostly standing afterwards. Did I get lucky, yeah maybe but I had minimal damage.

That’s what Big Fence wants you to think

I ran out of plywood so used some pickets to board up a few windows. Fence fell anyways. Insurance gave a lot for the fence and I fixed it for $50

I put up a new fence right before storm last year and decided to pull some boards. it held pretty good with some near 100mph winds. Reason I put them up with screws.

Katrina revealed that whoever put up my original >100 ft of fencing only sank the posts 18 inches. Every post had at least 45 degrees lean after. No removal of boards would have helped.
Insurance paid thousands for it. I replaced it myself for less than half what they gave me.

All the board fences in LC were blown down

its probably useless unless you remove more than you'd want to put back up. Just a hunch
