Does anyone else go fishing the day before a hurricane makes landfall?
With the upcoming storm do you plan on going this weekend?
Is RTB11 this weekend in GI?

If you really think about it
Every time you go fishing is before a hurricane
And every time you go fishing is after a hurricane also
That’s deep

Had one of my best trips ever the Saturday before Katrina. Have had other good trips before tropical storms. Not sure if it’s low pressure, the fish know shits coming and are trying to fill their bellies, or something else, but there seems to be something to it.

I have done this a few times and caught limits of reds. Most of these trips were at Fourchon launching from the public launch, and then fishing north west of the launch. The water was much higher than normal and the reds were in a feeding frenzy. The last time I did this, I caught 5 keeper reds in the same spot in 30 minutes. I would definitely go this weekend if I wasn't committed to other stuff.

quote:Yep. Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled. Forecast right now shows 10-20 mph winds earlier in the day Saturday. Not ideal, but manageable. But by Saturday night it'll be 25-35

I think the only issue is going to be rain and thunderstorms tomorrow and Saturday, before the hurricane even arrives. Does fishing before a hurricane make it easier to catch them though? Like do they all migrate towards the marsh, kind of like when it gets cold?

Best kayak day ever the day before Michael. Reds were hitting anything and everything. Not worth it, mind you, but it was a nice afternoon.

Someone is gonna be wearing out the shrimp before this storm. Won't be me though - busted lower unit is at the shop right now

The day or two before Opal hit Destin in 1995, I remember my grandad catching redfish in East Pass from their 5th floor balcony. All the men were casting from the balconies while my grandmother and some of the other wives were down netting the fish being reeled in. You could see massive schools of fish moving through the pass

Fished before a couple of hurricanes. Limited out on specks and reds pretty quickly. Think they were stocking up before the storm.

after a hurricane can be just as good too
as long as the water isnt too messed up
Ive been to grand isle after a storm to clean up the camp and gone fishing, if you find where all the water is draining out the marsh it can be awesome

Fished brush tops right before one of them last year with tigerfoot. The fish were on fire.

3 reds and a limit of 11” trout an hour ago but got run off by a rain storm. Second spot they were hungry.
