I’m really starting to wonder if some of these people in charge of the university weren’t placed there for the purpose of destroying athletics and long standing traditions.

Sounds like some people are trying to find an easy scapegoat with the new guy. Looking for someone to take the brunt of the backlash by presenting an even worse option entertained, whether true or not.
